I'm no savage fan but that axis 2 pro stock looks better than lots of others from a ergos standpoint. If it didn't drop at heel at all and the toe line was then correspondingly flatter it would probably be quite good.

I'd try to find a way to get a tikka with the rebate.

I paid $315 for this gun and it shoots at/under 1” with my 140 BT hand loads. Trigger is great, super compact and relatively lightweight. My full setup weights around 7.5# with a pocket knife, 7 bullets and a flashlight in the stock pouch.

Another nod for the Ruger American if you’re buying new. You might could find a used Tikka 6.5.

IMO you can’t go wrong with any of the 3 I listed.

Where is there a swfa 6x42 for $299? You can get them used here for like $400 if you're really quick.
I don't think they've actually made that scope in over a year.
I didn't say they were in stock, but that's the list price on their website. The Trijicons are in stock on EuroOptic though. My point was there's a couple options for reliable scopes that are well south of $1k.

At that price point the Ruger American predator/ranch has those features and a better ergonomic stock, IMHO. They're known to shoot well too.
I bought the Magpul Hunter option. 3 rounds at 100 yards to zero it. Next 5 shots were on target at 200, 300, 500, 700, and 850. I’m a solid believer in the Ruger platform.

There's some Tikkas out there for low $600s after rebate. On Gunbroker and Grabagun. On Grabagun, do the "Get a Quote" price emailed to you and it knocks off like $60 or so.

Thank you everyone. Looking at the ruger american. I have one in 350 legend. Just don’t like that the bolt doesn’t lock in place

Just look for the best deal on a tikka and scratch together a bit extra, guns are a great long term investment if you buy quality, you won’t regret it
On the other hand if you buy a POC salvage you get the pleasure of cursing that junk until you go to sell it and find that you can’t even give it away

EuroOptic has a blued tikka 6.5cm for under $700 with rebate. That is definitely the best value out there. I know it’s $200 over your budget but it’s worth every penny over a $500 gun.

No mods needed and feeds and functions so much better and any less expensive gun on the market.
If how my Super Varmint in 6.5 Creed shoots ( significantly more than $500 ! ) is any indication, I don’t think I would pass this up. Any Tikka plus 6.5 Creed is, in all likelihood, going to be very accurate and precise. To boot, 6.5 Creed’s such an accurate round that it’s highly likely that it’ll shoot well out of just about anything.

I’m using the Savage trail Hunter lite in 6.5 Creedmoor. So far so good. They can be had for 549. Lower if you shop around. So far mine is shooting good. 1MOA or better if I do my job. I took it apart when I got it and made sure everything was clean and torqued properly. Got a vortex viper hd 2-10x42 on it right now. Shooting factory 143 elf-x. It has a fluted medium barrel that is threaded. Weighs 8.5 lbs.

I've got good performance out of my howa 6.5 barreled action. Could buy that and a chassis/ stock or buy one of their complete rifles. They go on sale pretty regularly at brownells
