Moose/Elk/Caribou/Brown Bear Custom Rifle

I’ll say it….

That is the LAST thing I would wade into the alders with after a bear.

I 300 RUM’d a lotta critters. My latest grizzly rifle is a Kimber Montana 22 Creed with 88’s.

Bullets matter. Pick the bullet and impact velocity , then choose a cartridge that will achieve that.
Can you post pics of the grizz you shot with that rifle?

Certainly will after I kill one. Tends to be more hunting than killing when it comes to grizzlies…

Funny thing, when you’ve lived/worked/hunted/recreated for multiple decades in grizz country, grizzlies cease to be the boogeyman and become just another animal like anything else.

I’ve been reading about burning out barrels. For the average hunter that only goes once a year and puts 20-50 rounds through the gun a year, how big of a concern should that be? How many shots typically burn out the barrels from everyone’s experience?

For someone who shoots 50 rounds a year, 30 years on something that burns out barrels fast like a 22 Creed. Stretch that to 100 years on a 308 win.

As a general rule of thumb, the guys who worry about burning out a barrel, aren’t the guys who burn out barrels.

So what does everyone think about this setup? I like the idea of having two barrels for one gun. I'm a little concerned about the weight for hunting. Thoughts?

  • Best overall recommendation: Zermätt TL3 or SR3 action + TriggerTech Diamond + Proof CF prefit 280 AI (cerakote) + Zermätt Matterhorn.
  • Expected carry weight: about 10–11 lb bare, ~11–12.5 lb scoped, depending on exact barrel length and optic.
