Well I finally got tired of putting scratches on my F250 trying to go down NF roads and purchased a one owner 1992 Montero, 225k miles this weekend for a staggering $1. Started its life in Colorado Springs after 3 years moved to Tennessee, then after another few years moved to Georgia. Guy a work parked it about three years ago and had not started it since. Hooked cables to it and she cranked right up. Sent son back to town for a new battery and a can of sea foam. After about 15 minutes of airing up tires and letting it just run. It got brought home. Now the money pit starts..I dont even know what works or dont work on it at this point. Started an account over on Expedition Portal to help with any issues that come up. 20250913_171715.jpg

Yes sir a whole dollar. I figured it ends up costing about $1000 to get it into long distance travel shape...fluids, spark plugs, tires, brakes, etc...but hopefully by end of winter I can drive it back and forth to our farm that is 4 hours away. Then build a sleep platform inside and then go from there...

Cool rig. I echo @Nickofthewoods statement about the Monteros and Troopers. Aside from making it road worthy, do you have any other plans for it? If so, are you going to keep this thread updated on what you do to it?

Looks sweet. Kinda want one myself. I just worried about how easy they would be to find parts for but at that price u can't go wrong. Cause I'm looking for a daily and hunting bomber myself was looking at the early 2000s Chevy trackers

Pretty wild, when I was 3 years old I flipped in a red montero just like that one 3 times across 85 North here in Atlanta. Ended up right side up in the median. My mom needed 10 stitches on her arm, my self and my brother did not have a scratch.

Will keep updated but will be a slow build like all winter long. Immediate items are all fluids, plugs and wires, all bulbs in and out working. Next will be. 33" mud tires hopefully used on marketplace. Then paint wheels and lower plastic trim black. Interior is in really good shape just seat covers and build a sleep platform. Not sure what else open to ideas and color options. I found this one on line and really like the combo. Just not a fan of roof racks. Screenshot_20250913_220112_Chrome.jpg

I like the way that one looks. Please keep this thread updated. Would love to see the progress, even if it a slow build.

Had a Outlander for a commuter car, that thing ran great minimal issues to after 150,000. Just a timing belt. No dealers down here for a long time. Great rig for a buck.
