OH man that is utter shet. It would be really nice for them to fix it, considering the millions they revenue from hunters. A simple system makes people happy to apply. Sorry for all those still in limbo and/or waiting for their thousands of dollars to be refunded.

My buddy just spent an hour on hold and got to talk to a real person. He was successful, despite not getting an email and having his license show up online. All the extra charges will be refunded. Take hope, there is a chance!

So you’re saying there’s a chance! Well now I need to get ahold of someone. Haha I was charged eight times at $923. Hopefully they rectify these issues sooner rather than later.

dang.. I thought my 4k was bad.. pretty sad when a state holds 8k of your money just to tell you "sorry"... Hell, they know they are going to have more surplus tags coming available so they should just go ahead and give tags to the folks that they have taken money from and just count that towards the ones they will screw the sale up with later this summer

Im a resident. Both my NR brothers put in exactly at 5am, they both received error messages each time they put in. They did it in unison. One brother drew a tag, and the other did not. They got charged for each attempt, (multiple thousands of dollars). They tried calling, and finally got through. FWP admits there was an issue, but won't honor it. They say they use a third party licensing system, and that it isn't their fault/responsibility. This state beats the pride drum about how they take care of people and do whats right. But, they sure dropped the ball. It is especially infuriating that they won't right their wrong. Makes me embarrassed to involve them in this. My brothers state they wont hunt Montana again. Hunting with my brothers is huge for me. I don't like complaining, but hopefully someone at FWP reads this and takes note.

I'm currently of the opinion that I won't hunt Montana again. Unfortunately I'm going this year without a permit, because my buddy ended up drawing.

After about a 30 minute hold I was able to get in contact with a customer service lady with the Montana GFP. I submitted my application at 0603 CST and I was unsuccessful in getting a surplus tag. The state uses a third party site that unfortunately had issues yesterday morning and ultimately led to the charges on my card without getting a tag. The state is “working on a fix” for future applications. Was disappointed but no changing it now. A side note the lady I spoke with on the phone was great to deal with and was frustrated with the whole matter as well. Better luck next time I guess.

Looks like Montana's going to make things right. I'm impressed. Being from Illinois, it's easy for me to lose faith in government. It's nice to know there are good people running things in Montana who actually care about people.

Just got an email stating I qualified for a tag! Good news but I wonder how many extra tags they are going to be issuing due to this website issue? Would be curious to see what the number of hunters that applied are.

Same here. One of the 500 something. Looks like I’ve got a busy fall. Probably you got to guess not all of those will get purchased but that’s an extra couple hundred tags this year. On a herd that’s been on the way down already.

I hope some of you sporting gentlemen have the fortitude to forgo the pleasure and abstain . I myself shall indulge

Good morning,

On Monday, May 6th , Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks encountered a complication with the purchase of some Surplus Elk Combination Licenses. For some customers, an error occurred that prevented them from purchasing the license at the final stage of the transaction. During this process, multiple authorizations may have been placed on your account. The credit card processer is currently working to release all pending purchase authorizations.

FWP has identified customers who encountered this error while processing their payment between 5:00 and 5:30 am, MST. These identified customers will be given the opportunity to finalize the purchase the Elk Combination License they attempted to purchase before the licenses were sold out.

You have been identified as one of the customers that meet this criteria. FWP Licensing Staff will be contacting you by phone over the next several days informing you of how you can complete your transaction.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Thank you
