There's a hell of a lot of truth in this! Most of these guys are scam artists and a lot of snake oil is being sold about general hunt units. You take something special, turn it into a commodity, corruption results.
I read @thttker’s thread. How much is it worth for a guy to tell you where you can hear a bull bugle? 10k to see, hear, or smell an elk? Really? Numerous guys told @tntrker he was crazy to leave a hunt because a bull was bugling. He was eating shit, treated like shit, involved in a bush league operation, all while paying filet mignon prices… but he heard a bull bugle. Again, he paid 10k for a “professional” to guide him. This wasn’t a couple 20-somethings that watched some Go Hunt Dot Com videos, went out west, cut of their toothbrush handles, and planned to live on nature valley bars for a week… He paid big $.
Value is in the eye of the beholder. I wouldn’t pay $1 for some crook in a cowboy hat to provide me with the experience of hearing an elk bugle, let alone 10k. I said it above in my previous post… be careful with your $.
Guys are literally dumping tons of hard earned $ into hunts in general tag units. Some run reputable operations, a lot don’t.
Hunting elk is hard, it don’t come easy. If you didn’t grow up out here chasing elk, it’s hard to get into. But beware, there are crooks waiting to sell you a line of BS at every corner. Be damn careful with your $.
