Montana elk

I hunted the big game combo last October. Found some nice bulls across a canyon, but could never get in for a shot. Ended up with a mule dear and whitetail tag that I bought OTC.

Wish I could get back out for that bull this year, but not in the cards unfortuanately.
 
Website appears to be down. Can’t get on to check my status. I had two PP as a NR, so almost a shoe in, but still....until I see it I won’t be happy camper.
 
can anyone comment on what it took for a breaks archery only permit. im going on 4 points thought i could get out there in 2021

That would give you pretty good odds, there are a good number of tags available. Although my NR buddy hasn't drawn the last two years with 0 and now 1 point.
 
We struck out on the general elk and deer combo. We drew it last year so we had no points going in. We bought the point and still struck out. Good luck to every one who drew!

It means that you didn’t draw a tag on the first round. Someone else drew the tag but didn’t get the LE permit they wanted so they released the tag. You drew it on the second round. It just means that you retain your preference point and get a license.

I went and double checked, and they definitely took my preference point.

Last year I drew the released tag and I retained my preference points for sure because I had two this year. It was is only my second year of applying. I think if you give it some time it will appear.

Its not a huge deal to me, but if i get to retain it that would be great. I will give it a little bit and check again but I doubt it will magically appear though.

I didn’t expect to retain my preference point last year and was pleasantly surprised when I logged on at the end of last hunting season to see that I retained my point. My hunting partner was had the same thing happen to him. Maybe it was a glitch. I am not able to find anything about it on their website. It just says if you are successful at drawing a tag, your preference points are used. Technically you are unsuccessful but yet still get a tag. It could go either way. Does anyone else have the official rules on the released tag?
 
For those of you that did not draw (I didn't), did your pref point get added? I still show only 1 from 2019, and hoping I will get one for 2020 since I didn't draw - I hope I checked that box.

Your purchase receipt will tell you if you did or not.
 
Big game combo for me , first time ever out west and I cannot be more excited !!! Going with some seasoned friends and cannot wait
 
I applied for the breaks and did not draw but did receive my elk general tag. I am currently showing no points. Assuming the points went towards the general tag.

Preference points are used for the general, so yes they would have been used.


Bonus points are used for LE. If you had any bonus points you shouldn’t have lost them.

I drew my elk combo. I guess this just got more real...been working on getting in shape. Gotta amp it up a little now
 
Add me to the list waiting to see if I retained my preference point purchased at application time, was unsuccessful in the initial draw but picked up the released tag. Sure seems to me to be a glitch to be able to retain my point by drawing a released tag. Anyone have any updates to this?

I wouldn’t question it and get it taken away.

Buy another next year and viola, you’re guaranteed another tag . . . .
