I read on the internet about using brake cleaner and it did remove some of the finish on a plastic stock. I now use gun cleaner spray which contains no lubricants. I add lubricant later as needed.

It has its place. In Louisiana where our rifles are always wet but rarely below freezing, it's wonderful stuff. Great for the saltwater exposure.

If you open a trigger that's had wd sprayed in it for a few years, you'll know exactly how triggers fail.

The best gun oil I've ever used is R&O turbine oil. If it's good enough to keep a perpetually wet, multi billion dollar hydroelectric unit spinning....it's plenty for our sloppy rifles.

You can find it at your oil suppliers under R&O (rust and oxidation) turbine oil.

It never gets gummy or thick and supercedes anything you'll find at any gun, hardware or auto store.

Thanks for the tip. I've been using 15w40 mixed with diesel or transmission fluid so that sounds better.

If you can use compressed air to get as much water out and then a hair dryer.
It’s what I do and I’ve never had a problem
Check the assembly after the season is over.

Electrical contact cleaner spray. Less caustic than brake cleaner. ISO based.

I was told at both Glock and Remington armorer classes non chlorinated brake cleaner was 100% safe for any plastic parts. It’s the same thing as gun scrubber sprays that are 4x the price.
