Memories you made in the last year?

I think the intention of this thread are good memories. For me 2024 was a collection of mechanical breakdowns, replacements, and frustration. Somewhat like being continually being shot at with crisis after crisis. I survived it but aged some over the year. I'm glad to see some had a good year.

I’m sorry to hear that. Life definitely has a way of beating you down at times. Sounds like you were able to pull through. Good on you. Rooting for you in 2025.

I appreciate hearing about others' successes and I am thankful for their good fortune. Thanks, OP, for starting this thread.

I got to hunt a lot with my 3 year old son. From calling coyotes to chasing deer and antelope. He even got to watch his mom shoot a buck. He’s been a trooper.

I switched from a fast paced, rewarding, high action job to something more slow paced and challenging. It’s allowed me to be home every night and on my actual days off. I’m not a fan of the slow lifestyle but it’s afforded us trips we couldn’t do before. IMG_8013.jpegIMG_7994.jpegIMG_7535.jpegIMG_7773.jpeg

it’s been a bit of a rough year due to job issues, family and friends passings, and a couple of other things, but our son is doing great with his college search, and we managed to spend some time together in the woods and on the water.
Lots of “nut kicks” for sure, but watching him do great with it and my wife kicking butt in her job helps to paint a much brighter picture.
Thanks to all of the cool pics and stories in this thread, hopefully there will be plenty more.

As a whole, I feel like I haven't had a very good year in 2024. Mostly, it's all been related to a general feeling of burnout in my work life. Unfortunately, that rippled through a lot of the rest of my life.

On the bright side, looking back my year in the outdoors has been very good. Bright spots that have definitely kept me going.

In January, I had a great goose hunt with a couple of buddies. On of whom is unfortunately moving away in a couple of weeks.

I had a great turkey hunt with my lady in April. In the end, she got her first dose of what is feels like to miss...

In May, I killed a gobbler in a new-to-me spot. Later that month I got to catch a bunch of cool fish with my dad. He's largely ended his hunting career, but now, he loves to fish.

In late August, I missed a great pronghorn buck with my bow. Then, again, I missed another solid buck...

I took a sabbatical from work in September and spent nearly the entire month archery elk hunting in a great unit. It ended with a very bittersweet note but I did kill my personal best bull. Overall, it was a much needed break from everyday life obligations.

October found me helping my buddy with another elk hunt. He was able to tag his fourth elk, all of which I have been fortunate to be present for.

Towards the end of November, I was able to add another cow elk to my freezer.

Cheers to 2025!

One of life’s simple pleasures is watching young people grow up enjoying outdoor things. Someone’s first of any kind is as exciting as if it were me. It’s always seemed interesting how the learning process works in any sport - watching milestones pass as they grow up.

Daughter looks like she will be freshman starter on a D1 lacrosse team and got straight A’s
Son got his commercial pilot cert and about to finish his CFI as a junior in college and got straight A’s

Work is good but always high stress

Managed to have a bumper hunting season and finally take a big bull in a crappy unit I know very well

Lots of great memories this year. One of the more recent was taking my nephew hunting for his first time. No success but he is already talking nonstop about next time!

My wife getting her first western game animal and successfully executing her longest shot ever on game.

Getting stranded in a cabin in New Mexico snowstorm with my wife.

Forgot about one from yesterday - my son and I went squirrel hunting at a local WMA, him with his new Kimber .23 we gave him for an early graduation gift.
I heard him shoot and when we met to hike out he was all smiles holding a nice grey. “I saw him, lined up the rifle and knew it would be a good shot. He made a nice thud when he hit the leaves”
First shot in the woods with the new rifle, and a great way to start. The walk back to the truck was nice, and the sunset accompanying the walk was very nice.

I had my worst hunting season in as long as I can remember. However, my wife drew a Henry Mountains tag and I had another amazing experience out there and she killed a good buck. That hunt will give me amazing memories for the rest of my life.

Also got home to visit my parents for the first time in about 8 years. Had a good time visiting family and friends.

Watching my 2 high school boys (senior & soph) on the field at the same time is so cool. Soccer team won the conf championship. The oldest received conference & regional awards & scored 5 goals in one game. Now in basketball season. I never thought anything could outdo my years of playing but watching them is awesome.
Still having both my parents around to see them is icing on the cake

Been some highs and lows this year.

The biggest high was our trip to the Arctic Circle in late August. Been in the plans for a few years, but with work, life and other things changing, it got pushed back a few years. Then we did it.

The biggest low was getting injured at work in October and missing most of my whitetail season. I did manage to get out for a few sits, but not to extent that I have in the past. And recovery has been OK, but I am not 30 anymore and it takes time to heal.

My target buck, been chasing him a couple years now. At least he made it through the season....

Here is to all the best in 2025 for all!!

Cheers
