Regarding some earlier comments on the grip and the available finishes...
The Grip... I ordered a Game Warden Long Range for my Tikka (different stock, same grip). I was concerned about the finger shelf or "bump" on the grip. The Tall Grip version was not available, but I decided to take a chance after talking with others familiar with that feature.
After shooting 450 rounds, I have no issues with the finger shelf. It looks odd but feels great. It does what it was designed to do without any negatives (for me). I can fit 3 fingers below the bump. I am 6' 2", 195 lbs and wear a L or XL glove. I asked Josh at McMillan if I could remove the bump if I didn't like it. He said that was a bad idea and would significantly weaken the shell in a critical area. Thankfully, that is not an issue since the grip felt very natural from day one.
The finish... I was told by McMillan that ordering the Molded-In finish takes longer and to expect 6 months for delivery. Molded-In also adds weight (2-3 ounces). Lead time on a painted finish was 2 months. I chose paint. Received the first one in 7 weeks. Ordered an exact duplicate in another painted color and received it in less than 4 weeks. According to McMillan, they produce 8,000 stocks a year. I believe they have the process down and know how to deliver a quality stock.
The fit and finish is excellent. The inletting is snug but didn't not require any sanding or modification. The entire stock has very good texture. They cost more and that is painful. But I believe this is a case where you get what you pay for (in a reasonable time). Hope that helps. I would have no issues buying another McMillan. I believe they offer a full refund within 30 days if you don't like your stock. Picture below for reference...
