How many of you actually have a Rokstok in hand? I only ask because the quality of my Rokstok is on another level than any of my other stocky’s stocks I own. The carbon feels thicker, stronger, has no play, then you factor in the correct ergonomics it’s a steal at the prices they’re selling them for. I totally understand they have taken way way longer than expected and hope to see that change moving forward.

I want to back the mountain tracker LR but I can’t bring myself to pay an extra $400-$500. The quality of my McMillan is awesome but not worth $500 over my Rokstok. If they would have offered a discount to back the project I would have been all in but no discount and asking us to fund their venture doesn’t sit well.

I don’t. Probably wouldn’t be trying to fund this McMillan project if I did. It’s not about the quality, it’s about the fact RokStoks are impossible to get. They’re the new SWFA 3x9. At this point I’m just looking for the next best option.

I get it, McMillan is a well established company in the stock making business, so they should just make it and offer the product. My guess is this: if Tikkas were a booming portion of their sales, the inlet would already be offered to consumers.

Manners only offers a few select stocks for Tikka as well right?

I have no problem chipping in $100. I've wasted far more money trying to pull a damn sheep tag at various raffles, etc. that I will never see back in my pocket again. If this doesn't materialize, I'm not out any money, just a few months' wait.

Bingo. Once the Rokstok is available I will purchase one but honestly no one knows when that will be.

Also something to consider is the new MRC rifle that will be sporting them. I suspect that there will be a big focus to send stocks there for some time.

At this point I have zero doubt we will get enough backers. help me choose my color. I think I am going to go with the PAINT: HEC1 - SAGE which also seems to be the most popular I believe paint is lighter and less expensive than molded in. Is molded in that much better?

Different mold will be used though so it theoretically shouldn't effect Tikka.

I 100% hope and think the project will go through. More options is a good thing. I’ll just wait to buy a used one off the classifieds.

McMillans got a ton of good options. I like all the HLS Camos. I’ll probably go with the HLS Pine. I like the traditional speckled paint too though.

I have one. Evidently most were ordered with bare carbon with a pic rail, and stocky’s was having trouble executing the high level of finish quality required on these particular stocks. If you were willing to switch to a painted stock to hide those cosmetic flaws than you would likely have been able to receive a stock sooner. I have a stocky’s sporter as well and it is well executed with no cosmetic flaws, so I find the whole thing somewhat confusing. Mine has cosmetic flaws and is a little rough quite frankly. I’m okay with that. It’s a great stock that serves its intended purpose very well. And I intend to paint it myself. It is much more robust than my stocky’s sporter though. I also have several Allterra Arms Tikka stocks and they are a step up in visual quality, and are very robust as well. It has a hybrid but not a true vertical grip though. They utilize actual pillars and are bedded, which I like better than the stocky’s/Rokstok system. The Rokstok shoots great regardless so take that for what it’s worth. I have no experience building carbon stocks but it appears to me the pre preg carbon they are utilizing is a devil to work with and they had to use a higher ratio of resin to tame the flaws down. Thus the higher than estimated finish weights and resulting robustness. Rokstoks are a great product and they will get it ironed out eventually. It’s a determined group of guys there.

Is there anyone that has shot these mountain tracker LR McMillan stocks and a rokstock that can give a firsthand comparison?
So the Mtn tracker is a bit more versatile, being it has integrated arca and is also bit lighter if you go with exposed carbon finish, at least my samples show. The McMillan forend is just slightly stiffer than the Rokstock in testing flexion. I've had no issues with the butt pad coming lose or stripping out the screw holes with McMillan, as I have with the rokstock. I believe the rokstock tracks slightly better from a bag/bipod as the butt stock toe line is parallel to forend, whereas the McMillan is I believe 3° different. The McMillan still tracks better than a manners PH, EH1 or my other McMillan Game Warden 2.0 LR stocks. Recoil management is very similar with the negative comb and high butt pad configuration. Low recoil cartridges think 65cm/6prc or less, you'll see not a lot of difference, stepping up to larger capacity and caliber magnums, the Rok will have the advantage here likely. Another pronto the Rok is the multitude of available SRS rails that'll fit any desire.

As far as fitment, I ordered my Mtn tracker at 13" LOP, and the womans at 12.75" to fit our shooting styles better. The Rok is only available at 13.5" or longer with spacers. The grips feel similar, as is the grip to trigger distance. The McMillan comes with a full length pacameyer pad VS the thin limbsaver. The seem similar in performance, and im glad the Rok uses the thin pad, as I find the thick limbsaver pads far too squishy and don't like how they feel shooting.

Honestly the rokstok is a good buy at the price point, I got a bare carbon and did my own paint so it was pretty cheap. Performace to cost ratio here is high. The McMillan is near 2x the price. There are tradeoffs in the fit/finish versatility(custom lop upon ordering) of the McMillan VS small advantage of the Rok where it wins in tracking and recoil management.

I would have ordered more Roks if I could, but I currently CAN'T. So a few weeks ago I ordered 3 more Mtn trackers. The McMillan is also available in non 700 style inelts, like the flat bottomed bat bumblebee and vampire actions(some the best lightweight actions available I feel) , which are two that I ordered, cannot get a Rok in that fitment.

That's my thoughts, the Roks a good stock. Is the McMillan better where the rubber meets the road(recoil management/tracking), no it's not. The Rok wins by small margin here. The McMillan wins in customizable options upon ordering, fit and finish, better craftsmanship, and its lighter even with integrated arca. I would gladly hunt with both and personally don't have a bias towards either one.

Excellent write up for sure! I’m excited to pick one up for a Kelbly Nanook 300 PRC. It’s the last piece of the build.
