I thought about something similar, if it gets down to that ask if I can front more cost to pay for the molds, lol.
Maybe they should just put 10 minutes into marketing this project. They haven't even put out a single social media post about it! They have over 77k Instagram followers; I'm sure some of them would be interested if they just knew about it.

I spoke with McMillian over email and phone a few times in November specifically about Tikka options and how I was going to wait for the Mountain Tracker LR in that version. If they had CRM software that tracked clients, I could have been on an email list that alerted me about the project. Instead I was lucky enough to hear about it from a friend who randomly saw it on their website.

Honestly I can't think of many "business to consumer" companies that put so little effort into marketing these days.

I'm only so frustrated by it because I already put my deposit in and have been waiting/hoping for this project to become a reality. Seems like they would have already hit 50 deposits if they put just a little effort into getting the word out.

Expected weight is 30-32 ounces. Remember that includes all standard accessories which is both the front pic rail and rear Arca, plus flush cups.

I also wish it was a bit lighter but that doesn’t seem to ever be McMillan’s MO. They want to build them robust, not light. I think the rokstok is nearly as heavy within a couple ounces. 28-30 oz is what I have seen.
My rokstok with pic rail is 31.8 oz. Two flush cups and bare carbon, no spacers. With spacers reports up to 34 oz

You’re not wrong. Unless you’ve done so, I can reply to the rep I was talking to last week and see if they’d be willing to post it on their social media accounts. We only need 18 more!

My .02. Tell them if it isn’t lighter than the rokstok all in ( < 30 oz) why would the larger market pay more for it. The market has more tikka options than ever and any new addition has to have a long term feature advantage to validate their investment( I’m sure they get that and it’s probably why they appear to be waffling about a new introduction)

From what I've gathered the carbon fiber should be close to that. And I personally don't care if it's equal weight or an oz or 2 heavier, because the Mountain Tracker is actually aesthetically pleasing and not a hideous atrocity only it's own mother could love.

Less than 12 month lead time for starters.

Couldn't agree more. Although I must admit the Rokstock has started to grow on me a little. It's so ugly, that it's almost cool looking.

McMillan doesnt do alot of advertising, because they don't need to. They have always done well and had multiple large contracts. Im guessing consumer direct stocks are their minority sales.

Some combination of stiffness, features, ergonomics, balance of rifle, and/or affordability will suffer when pushing the weight of a stock farther below 32oz

I have the Mcmillan LR hunter (the traditionally shaped version of this Mountain Tracker LR), and find it to be a great combination of those features.

Losing any number of ounces off it will sacrifice something, and is of little interest to me

All very true and I think most would agree with you on this. For myself, adding 4-6 oz for the stock over my Allterra arms stock ( which works great for me and is better fit and finish than my Rok) plus the heavier direct mount rings plus the 3-5 oz heavier scope == upper 8lb to lower 9lb total weight range. I compromised already by increasing to 8-1/4-8-1/2lb range. Personally for me only, and the country I hunt and how I hunt, I don’t want that weight gain. We’re all somewhere on that spectrum. I guess what I’m saying is if I am in business and I bring a product to market that costs more but with no real functional advantage over 1or 2 other products. Than why do that? Do I compete by having better overall quality, better CS, reputation, shorter lead time, lower weight, more options?

Agreed, the Stocky's are great for ultralight stocks but they do not have the same feel as the other carbon options with a little beefier forend, and that's what I want on my long range setup.

For this stock IMO, it's completely ergonomics and shootability by design. The only close option that has pretty much all the same functional improvements is the Rokstock.

This right here exactly. I’ve completely drank the Rokstok Kool-Aid, but they don’t exist in the wild. People are still waiting on their original orders, and Unknown has completely stopped taking new orders on them. I also think McMillan makes a better stock than Stocky’s, and, in the end, that’s what a RokStok is. If Unknown/Stocky’s can figure out production and availability of the RokStok I’ll eventually buy one. Until then, I have far more faith in McMillan to get a stock in my hands before next season.

McMillian vs Stocky’s/UM? Zero contest!
One has a long history of delivering a quality product (while admittedly not perfect) that has become an industry standard, and the other has the exact opposite history.

But this is still an absurd way to go about it. Suck it up, assume the business risk of the new venture because that’s what businesses do, then market well and generate your sales.

I was a little disappointed to see this hasn't really been shared on their social media platforms as well. Seems like it would generate some interest.

Anyways, I sent them a message over instagram to see if they'd post it.

Sweet, thanks for doing it. I’ll send a message to the guy I talked to as well. Can’t hurt.

17 more! We’re getting there.

Agreed. I have Stockys and McMillan stocks. While Stocky’s aren’t bad, McMillan stocks are much higher quality and the price reflects it. Interestingly, I ordered a McMillan a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving and received it last week. That’s the quickest I’ve ever received a custom stock.
