If you are asking about the weight of this stock you already know it is not a stock for hiking or the back country.

Anyone running a McMillan tactical A3-5 who can comment on its weight for backcountry hunts, particularly when built for an X-bolt?

I’ve liked that stock design since it came out and hope to pick one up eventually when the price is right on a used one. Isn’t it in the 3 lb to 3-1/2 lb range? I like the substantial forend that has enough reinforcement to be rather stiff. For an extra heavy 15 lb to 18 lb rifle with varmint or heavy varmint barrel I think it would be just fine, since that’s really what it was designed for.

Having carried a varmint weight rifle high country elk and deer hunting for a couple of seasons in my younger days, I’d say there is nothing wrong with it if you’re tough, and willing to accept that regardless of your level of fitness, a heavy rifle will slow you down, be more uncomfortable to hand carry, and in general be more of a constant hinderance that negates any long range accuracy advantage. An accurate gun 8 lbs ready to fire is a much more effective high country rifle, at least for me, but someone should carry the rifle that interests them regardless of anyone else’s idea of fun. :)
