Maven vs nightforce

I’m looking to put a new scope on my 7prc havak element. I’ve narrowed it down to a couple choices. Either the NF nx8 4-32x50 or the maven RS 1.2 2.5-15x44. Both scopes would be FFP and mil.

Used for general hunting and in my area shots could be 50-100 yards up to 400 yards. Not confident in anything beyond at the moment. I really don’t need the 32x on the NF but have heard it’s a better FOV than the 20x. Of course concerned about reticle size at low power. Both scopes seem to be reliable with good reputations.

Thanks in advance.

I am in the same boat, looking for new glass and these two have been well recommended. I am also considering the Trij Tenmile HX 5-25x50. It is on par with the price of the NF, where the Maven is about half the price. I like the option to have a larger zoom since I have and will be shooting past 400.
Illumination will help with the smaller reticles at low power.
Results from the Field Evaluations have really helped with this process, thanks @Formidilosus .

NF gets my vote as that’s what I have on all my rifles. If you hunt in any dark timber areas a F1 scope can be an issue even with a lighted reticle. IMO anything below 7x on an F1 scope is useless.

Both have their fanboys and their detractors. You honestly are going to get into a great optic either way so it comes down to what's important to you when it comes to price and magnification etc.. All I know is you won't have a 7 PRC with either scope and have a 400 yrd limit. Almost defeats the purpose of high powered scope on that cartridge.

Buy the scope, hit the range, and you'll be out to at least 600-750 in absolutely no time!

People are the limiting factor, rarely is it the equipment.

Absolutely, you will always hold the gun back more than it does you. But that’s why I only said 600-760. A military sniper could take that setup out to a mile. So all I’m saying is a well practiced shooter shouldn’t be below 600 yards with that. At that point it’s effort rather than skill.

My 223 has the NXS8 4-32
My 7prc has the Maven 1.2 3-15

If I’d had the Maven 1.2 before the NXS8, I wouldn’t have bought the NXS 8. The NXS or maven isn’t usable in 7prc above 10-12x depending on range(meaning spotting hits) , now image what the NXS reticle is like compared to Maven at 6-12x, the maven is exponentially more usable throughout its whole range.

The extra 20-32x mag on the 223 is great at range, I don’t have to move to the spotter and can stay in it in higher mag range. But again the 1.2 has a more hunting friendly reticle mag range for majority of calibers

Can’t speak to the NX8. I’m very happy with the Maven RS 1.2. Amazing clarity and I absolutely love the reticle on it.

I purchase a NF NX8 4-32x50 with the MOAR reticle and love it. Waiting on my Seekins Havok M3 to ship in 7PRC so I can mount it…..

Having had one of each, both are great scopes! I love the maven reticle and now have 3 rs 1.2s. For the price of an NX8 new, it’s a rs 1.2 and a new rifle, which is partially why I’m selling mine.

Maven all the way. Nightforce makes some great scopes, but I don't own any anymore. The NF rep in my area doesn't understand customer service or how to talk to customers. That's a deal breaker for me.

I can understand not liking a cluttered Christmas tree style reticle, but as long as you have windage hash marks in a granular enough scale to be useful, what makes one reticle better than another?

I’ve never considered it.
