My experience with the RS2 was on a lightweight (7.5lb all-up) .30-06. I figured the reticle out and was able to make consistent 500yds shots at 10x. Eye relief really was lacking for me, and even on lowest power I feel like your face has been just right in there or the sight picture/fov wasn’t great.
That said, I successfully killed 5 elk in those two seasons (a large 6x6 bull, two cows and two calves) and a mule deer buck at ranges of 50yds, 160yds, 260yds, and 500yds and in a variety of lighting conditions including absolute last light (500yds). So it works. But I also got scoped which is never fun but whaddya do.
The lack of eye relief makes extreme uphill and downhill shots and longer shots that require extra magnification pretty touchy. I have moved the scope to a Kimber MT .280AI and am now considering one for a lightweight .35 Whelen pre64 Model 70, which sounds like a bad idea as I type this…
Ultimately, imho, it is a great lightweight bomb-proof scope that holds zero, has capped turrets, pretty good glass, and a use-able holdover reticle, although there are compromises of course.
Honestly, if Leupold would make a VX3HD 2.5-8X with capped turrets and their B&C reticle then I’d have found the holy grail scope for this application…
