Maven RS.2

I am considering a Maven RS.2 as a fairly inexpensive scope that will hold zero to replace Leupold VX3 and Swaro Z3. I have other scopes, to include a couple of NF NXS, Swaro Z5, older Zeiss Conquest, and a mix of older fixed power scopes; and, the Rokslide Forums have helped me resolve some mysteries therein. I have a Maven RS1.2 on the way, and will probably be adding another one or two (or SHVs) as time goes on. I have already read more threads here than I can truthfully remember. So, to cut to the chase, am considering the Maven RS.2 as a partial fix. For this purpose I don't need any frills...SFP is fine, MOA is fine, and could easily use a fixed 6 if something durable were available. Therefore, wondered if anyone knows how well The RS.2 holds zero....in this case, that's really my only unanswered question. They shouldn't get banged around too much. If they can tolerate bumpy vehicle rides, and even the 18 inch drop test, they should suit this purpose . This is my first real posting, and apologize if I missed this answer somewhere. And, just FYI, I did some 18 inch drop tests ....and yes...that was a depressing day. (But explained a few mysteries over the past years!). Thanks in advance, and very best luck to everyone as fall hunting gets underway!

I’m gonna bump this because I also just ordered the rs1.2 and am wondering if the rs2 is good as well. Seems like a great lightweight hunter!

I did receive the RS.2 but haven't had time to install or test it. I have been continuing limited tests on my other scopes. I'm only doing 18" drops, RTZ, and shooting multiple groups to assess how many of my scopes are truly suitable for my hunting purposes (usually <200 yrds). And, I have a rifle that will handle long range if needed. However, I have spent hundreds of hours turning factory bolt guns into accurate rifles, and am somewhat OCD when it comes to accuracy. I now think many unresolved flyers and separated groups were scope related. In Africa, and other hunts that involved a lot of truck time (antelope, etc.), my wife and I had a few problems holding zero that were clearly scope related. So, out of curiosity, when I finish this escapade I am going to begin switching the RS.2 with the scopes that have shown issues in my limited test procedure. Since at first I won't really know how sturdy the RS.2 is, my outcomes won't be up to Rokslide standards. However, if I discover anything noteworthy, or otherwise decide to try a more reliable test on the RS.2, I will update this post. I guess what I am looking for is a limited comparison between this $550 scope, Swaro Z3, and Leu VXIII. If I decide I am willing to risk breaking a bunch of scopes I will get more scientifically frisky. P.S. Will be installling an RS1.2 momentarily on a 7RM with Bartlein barrel and McMillan stock. Don't really use that rifle much anymore, but want it "Rokslide Solid!".....Just in case! Very Best Wishes to all!

What was the outcome of your testing?

Sorry, I haven't followed up on this. Had family health problems and haven't done much shooting/testing in past few months. With regard to the RS.2 the only thing I have done is install it on a custom build Rem 700, McMillian stock, Bartlein #3b barrel, .308, 10" twist...Talley lightweight mounts installed with Locktite 380 on receiver, Blue Locktite on base screws at 50 in lb, if I remember correctly, and 24in lb on the ring screws., and fingernail polish on everything to detect base/ring/scope movement..but little shooting. After limited load development with some left over 165 Nosler BTs, 43.5 gr. Reloader 15, I ended up with 20 shot group of just about 1" that was basically a 3/4" cluster. The only test I have done is 36 in drop tests on somewhat wet/soft ground, covered with a shooting mat about 1/2" thick. 4 drops on top, 3 drops on each side. Before I started that test I shot a six shot group that measured 5/8". After the drops the group was about 1.25 in, and the shots that expanded the group were all exterior to the original 6 shot group at about 11:00, 3:00, and 8:00. Scope/mounts/rings did not move. Didn't take a picture but just imagine a more or less symetrical cluster as the middle, with about an 1/8 space all around it, and three bullet holes at the above mentioned positions. Looked nice and symetrical but all three exterior shots were done during the drop test. Can't be sure what that means, but the fact is that the last three shots I fired encircled the original group, with none landing inside the original goup. Could have been me shooting bad, but I doubt that was a significant factor. I am usually consistent. Just FYI, had I had more of the 165 NBTs I would have shot a 10 or 20 shot preliminary group; probably... with no resulting questions. Sooo, for my purposes that is probably ok, but otherwise probably not a sufficient test. Obviously, the odd thing was that all of the outlying shots were from the drop test. If I had started with a 20 shot group they all may have been "in the cone," or certainly just on the fringes--nothing significantly out of the group that worries me...but curious! I appologize for not having a "Form worthy" test. When we get some estate issues resolved I will try to get some more definite data. However, I did just purchase two Trijicom Huron scopes, at slightly less $$ than the RS.2. My goal is only to find a fairly inexpensive scope that will hold zero. For what I am using these scopes for they will probably never be dialed, and SFP is not a problem. Probably never be shot at over 300 yards. Just need them to tolerate being bounced around some, maybe dropped, and HOLD ZERO. I would assume there are a bunch of folks with the same needs. Very Best Wishes to all!
