Mausers?

I have worked on and owned a bunch of Mausers (98's) over he years and really like them as hunting rifles. Sure the technology is old but so am I. Up until a couple of years ago there were still a lot of original Mauser sporting rifles popping up on the used gun market but that has pretty much stopped. All of the old hunter have passed on and their widows long ago sold the guns. I still keep watching though in case something does turn up...

Although this is not a "Mauser" it is considered own of the finest variations ever made, the BRNO ZG47 (Zielfernrohr Gewehr(scoped rifle)). These are also not often to be found... Anyone hunting with an old Original Mauser to a BRNO or CZ sporter?

First rifle was an M38 6.5x55, and i still carry a custom 25-06 built on a 1909 Argentine M98 and a 308W built on a commercial Santa Barbara large ring with a Shilen barrel.

I have a 1953 vintage FN commercial action that i have tucked aside to build something with down the road.
Not many good smiths left here in Canada, so cash and timing are critical.

I love the old sporterized rifles! Sure, would have been better if they were with original furniture, but alas, once done you may as well enjoy them. My favorite was a 1903a3 sporterized, with a 308 bull barrel and a brilliant target stock. Wore a SS 10x fixed, and shot great! I ended up trading it for a pre-64 W70, but this is probably one of the bigger regrets I have in all my years of trading and selling. Shot like a dream, but like most jobs that get chambered in a new round, feeding was spotty. But man, what a fun rifle and a beauty to look at!

Don’t hear of many people having Husqvarna rifles. I have one that was passed to me when my grandpa passed away and I love it. Actually plan on putting a new scope on it this year and working up a load for it to use a little more next year.

I still use a K98 I bought for $12 in the early 70s. Even with military sights and two stage trigger it would shoot sub- 0.75 MOA. I've restocked it, Timney trigger and scope and it still keeps killing things. A couple of years ago I picked up a Whitworth Mauser in 375 H&H. Wonderful addition.
