I have for sale a beautiful little 8x57 (8mm Mauser) hunting rifle, made by Paul Weiss, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, probably in the 1950s or early 1960s. Nicely figured wood, double set triggers, everything a jager needs to go hunting in the Alps.
Rifle weighs 6.9# with leather sling and without optic.
Scope is a contemporary 4x with simple wire reticle, made by B. Nickel, Marburg. Scope weighs 1.4# with QD mount. Mount controls windage. Mount is not original to rifle, but was custom made to fit the original claw mounts.
Rifle was probably purchased by a serviceman in Germany in the late 1950s or early 1960s. I believe it is depicted in the 1957 catalogue here:
It may have been made by Walther for Paul Weiss, but I cannot say for sure. My German isn’t very good. Paul Weiss was a highly regarded custom hunting rifle maker. If that’s the correct rifle, it looks like it would have cost the equivalent of about $8100 2026 dollars!
My brother originally purchased this rifle in the late 1990s. I traded him for it, originally planning to do load development and hunt with it, but I don’t have the time for the projects I already have and I already have more hunting rifles than I could use every year. So, as nice as it is, it either has to go or sit in my safe for a few more years.
Asking $1600 OBO to your FFL. Zelle, Venmo, or check preferred. I also have some brass, unloaded bullets, and dies, which we can discuss if you are want them. I would also consider trades for very limited items, including a wooden Rokstok.
If interested, I encourage you to FaceTime me to get a better look at it. It’s truly a beautiful little rifle.
