Mark 4hd vs night force shv

I have an nx8 and 2 of the little SHV 3-10. The shv is great, in many ways I like it better. Capped dials don’t bother me just leave the cap off if you want. No zero stop but dials great out to any distance. Great eye relief.

In need of another scope and instead of getting SHV #3 I just ordered the Mark 4 2.5-10. I’m very interested in comparing the two once I get some time behind the Leupold.

Here's why I will always choose nightforce. I shot a buck on Thursday and leaned my gun against my truck as I was cleaning him. I got in it to scoot forward and it fell and hit the ground.

I took a guy hunting yesterday and he shot a deer and another doe walked out about 10min later. She was close and i was able to make a headshot on her and save all meat on my last deer of the year.

Id bet you that the leupold wouldn't have held zero on that little tumble. I have one and I'm confident in that statement based on what ive seen with it.

I just got the 2-10 mk4 and I have had the SHV. From my brief time on the Leupold, I think the SHV is a better scope. The glass is decent and the dials seem good. I don’t like the reticle and I always worry about the reliability.
I have yet to have a Nightforce issue.

My rifle with a 3-10 SHV fell out of my tree stand and buried the barrel about 8-10" inches into the soil and about a week or so later I shot a whitetail at 450 yards. I'd say it held zero

Whats your thoughts between the 2? Glass quality and reticle opinions? Thanks

That’s a tough one.
The SHV reticle is better to me, but I’m of the opinion that NF has the best reticle in the business. They are just right. But the MK4 is pretty good.

The MK4 seems to have better glass.
The MK4 is F1 so there’s also that, although in a 10x seems unnecessary.

Appreciate the feedback 👍🏻
Looking for a dedicated deer hunting scope 400 yards and in … between those 2 and the ole Trijicon 2.5-10x56

Any updates on comparing the Mark4 to the NF scopes you have?

I really like the mark 4. I’m not easy on stuff but I haven’t exactly beat it up, saying that because I know it hasn’t been a favorite in the drop tests here. So far dialing has been very repeatable. The tactile feel of the dial is definitely not as crisp to me as the NF but it’s good enough to know where you’re at and I haven’t had any issues.

Do I like it better than the NF? Well, my 12 year old brain dreams of going from the range to having my scope rattle around the back of an old Land Rover in Africa and then back home to the range without a single need to do a major re zero so the durability expectations of the NF win over. But in my normal “real” life, I’m pleased with it. Great glass at dusk.
