Sounds like the SHV is a safe bet from a durability stand point… I can’t find a recorded failure on this site. There’s one guy who’s posted on every forum that he’s seen two 5-20s fog up, but that seems to be an outlier.

For me the Maven just has a better zero stop, illumination, and magnification range, and I slightly prefer the Maven mil reticle though they are similar

Not all of the SHVs offer those. Some SHVs don't have a "zero set", some aren't illuminated. Etc etc.
I have both the RS1.2 and an SHV 4-14 F1. I asked cause in my mind they are extremely similar. Do think the Maven has the better reticle for western hunting, no doubt. It’s also a few ounces lighter although that doesn’t really factor in my equation. 30oz or less is good for me for a rifle I’m packing around.

Browsing the NF website and Euro Optic it does appear they have standardized and cut down the options on the SHV since I last shopped for one new. It appears the illumination is standard and there's no longer the option to get the 5-20 without it. It's the used market that has been challenging to make sure it's the scope I want.

I have had the SHV and the vx5hd is noticeable better for clearer/sharper glass. I liked the turrets on the SHV probably better however. The SHV isn't bad price point I get mine for 1050 out the door non illuminated. Currently running mark5, vx5 gd, kahles.
