Pieced this together last minute for elk hunting this year. PM A11 (same as CPM 10v) heat treat by me to 66 Rockwell. This thing is sick. I was inspired by Phil Wilson’s work.
The handle is cnc machined, G10/canvas micarta sandwiched together over a partial tang, so it is super light. E120hp epoxy to hold it all together.
Can’t wait to use this thing. Super sharp. Had to go to CBN stropping compound. The white compound I use for everything else wasn’t taking the burr off at all.
This steel is very resistant to hand sanding. I do D2 all the time and this is like night and day harder to sand. The paper doesn’t last and it doesn’t do much to the steel. I’ll have to work on a better way to finish this steel.
I have more experience making knives than processing animals, but this design makes sense to me. Grippy scales, good guard, lots of belly, not a lot of holes/screws/little places that are hard to clean out.
