LS Wild Suppressor Covers

I guess I got my silencer hot enough to melt the cover to the can. When I got the cover off it ended up being sort of stretched out or the melted material made it so it’s not tight. Now it slips forward and got sort of blown apart a bit from the muzzle brake blast.

Not posting this as a complaint at all, just a heads up, in case you’re shooting a lot. I’ve put about 500 rounds through this in the past five days just practicing for a black bear hunt I’m going on. @hereinaz have you seen this?
Scythe is putting in work haha

The way they are assembled the edge of the cover fabric is touching the can at the seam. IIRC nylon fabric will melt at 400-500F so if you're firing enough its gonna be able to melt that edge, that level of heat is also probably gonna degrade the elastic in the cover. Dunno how many rounds in what duration it takes to hit that.

Its a lighter duty hunting cover (that isn't meant as a slight) and the weight of it for that purpose is nice. If you're gonna be hammering rounds there is a point where it would make sense to take this off to preserve it. Carbon felt and vet wrap might be better to beat on during those times.

That was my impression when I received mine and saw it but no one had yet reported melting one so it seemed like it would take a fair number of rounds in succession to do it so I wasn't too worked for my usage.

You pushed it to failure!!! That is impressive. Apparently, It’s not a 500 rounds in two days sort of cover. 😂 But, I applaud your dedication to bear hunting accuracy!

I wanna know how well it kept the mirage down!

Looks like it melted the nylon in the seam. Did the gunk come off the can? I have seen it once before, and it’s gotta be crazy hot to melt the nylon like that. You know how many were in the string? What cartridge?

Send it to me to do an autopsy. I will get you another one out to you.

Correct on all the above.

I appreciate that he shared the comment and results. It should not dissuade a hunter from getting one.

Definitely not designed for the temperatures it takes to melt nylon. I made a few versions that would, but it defeated the KISS design parameters. And, it was just as heavy and annoying to take on and off as the other covers out there.

Seriously, that can was absurdly hot. I am actually stoked to see that it apparently took some extreme punishment to cause failure. And, you won’t see those conditions on a hunt.

I shot a 10 round group then the rifle hunting drill, so 30 shots in about 8 min with my 22 cm the other day and noticed it melted a little bit of the felt to my can, still fits great and I see no issues, just noticed it left some melted felt on the can and when I twisted the cover I noticed it was kind of stuck. No mirage that I noticed from the can at all during the drill.

The carbon felt isn't gonna melt, its that little bit of the cover material in the seam touching the can that you melted a bit of.

I’ll look again but I thought it was all the way around the can and not just the seam. Could have been oil or something that got hot also and attached to the felt.

Hard to say exactly how much iq as shooting in strings, the gun is shooting so well with the loads I made that it was just hitting without me having to do much work so I was just blasting away. I have a gong hung up at about 400 and there is all sorts of rocks that are fun to shoot on that mountain. I’d say my strings were 15-18, I have 6 magazines that were loaded up so the most I could do would be 18 rounds before having to stop and load magazines.

There was some mirage but I don’t recall it effecting the shots, at one point I stopped to load and the heat waves looked like they were just dumping off the thing

Cartridge is a 6.5 creedmoor with 130g tmks I think I did 43.5g of h4350. I’d definetly buy another one of those covers, I wasn’t trying to do that, I just wasn’t thinking about it. I don’t usually shoot like that but I was having fun so I was just sending em.

I’ll send you that cover if you want, PM me an address.

I wouldn’t do it again, I honestly wasn’t giving it much thought, I was having a good time shooting and I was making good shots so I just kept shooting. Life has been pretty stressful for me lately so I was just enjoying climbing a peak and doing some shooting, felt like I was being productive lol.

My whole can seems to have some black stuff all over it but that seam line in my photo is the worst of it.

The possibility is the nylon melting. Other than that it’s something else on the can I would guess.

You can put a torch to the felt and it just glows red.

PM if you need anything.

Were you able to get the melted stuff off? I haven’t tried all that hard yet but I’m going to try tomorrow.

I ordered 2, and fat lingered the dimensions on one of them by mistake. I got ahold of them, and he's sending me a new one for free.
They are light weight and very nice. Absolutely worth the money. And solid customer service.

That’s the way to live!

I’ve put an absolute beating on two of mine as well. Other than some discoloration they are holding up great still on a 22 Creed and a 223.

I’m thinking that scythe gets hotter than my other silencers, at least it seems like it. I sent the burned/stretched one back today for him to look at.

Now I need to figure out how to get all that burned stuff off my silencer. Wondering if I should try heating it up with a torch or maybe just shooting it until it’s hot and trying to get it for then.
