Love how we're evolving

What I legitimately don't get is AI wasn't even a thing 5yrs ago...was it??
No, but scams have been around forever. Forums are rich sources of back-links and other SEO shenanigans, and that crowd has been building these "sleeper" accounts for years to make their posts. You see them everywhere. We own a Heartland RV and are a member of a forum for same, and one or two get "woken up" every week over there. It's always the same pattern. An account quietly made, an innocuous reply here and there, and all of a sudden an oddball post that almost looks like it fits if you're drunk and squint a bit. If there's a response to the outcry at all, it's always indignant, and actually sometimes THOSE are even written by humans (paid $0.25 a post to some fat old guy in a wife-beater in Chennai) to help continue the theme.

Once you see the pattern, though, you'll start seeing it everywhere. There are a few things they can't help. They never really seem to contribute anything. Their questions or posts are always "sort of right" but there's always just something odd about them. They're (nearly - legit accounts get hacked, too) always low-post accounts with very generic profiles. And (usually - the patterns are evolving) if they aren't caught/banned you'll see a link to a product or other Web site within 3-4 posts of when they get woken up.

If you just Google "buy backlinks" this is one of the dirty secrets of how that industry operates.

It is not... but it can become a sandwich if the hinge of the bun breaks and you have two pieces of bread.

And yes, that means if you take one piece of bread, put mayo and meat on it, then fold it in half, you have a hot dog.

I expect the bots to use this reasoning soon...
You yourself proved why hot dogs MUST be sandwiches, silly. If you can put meat between slices of bread and have it be a sandwich, and then run out of bread and roll the last slice and it's still a sandwich, then how could hot dogs NOT be sandwiches? 😂 The real question I'm sure we're all wondering is: is cereal really a soup? And is coffee also "bean soup"?

nailed it! everyone should read this^ It's not just Rokslide "not caring". It's scammer evolution that never stops.

the OP we banned had one "wake up" post in the last 24 hours then this thread. Pretty sure he was headed for the classifieds next.

@Ryan Avery

Mod's can probably tell, but most of the scammers are probably American. As someone that travels to lots of places outside the US, Rokslide is a MF to access. Most VPNs are blocked as are IPs outside western countries, and it's quite a bit a trouble to access. Annoying as hell, but possible.

you're right, and if they get past all that, they still have to figure out how to fool @philos

For a long time I just had a home vpn, which worked great for what I need. But the great firewall of china finally blocked my home ip, and even having that changed, they usually update within a day or so.

For most eastern scammers, it's more trouble than it's worth when there's easier prey.

The suggestion in the other thread about requiring 2FA for accessing the classifieds would remove these ghost accounts from being hijacked. But would do nothing against people that are legit people and hunters themselves looking to scam.
