Missing hunter in Unit 18/23 area in Idaho.
Very rough area. They do have a pretty good collection of recorded pins though. The weather that is supposed to set in tonight is worrisome.Damn, that area can be brutal too. Hope hes found safe
Yes for sure. Atleast they have good starting points. I have a group of buddies that are up near that area right now packed in. I'll message them on their inreachVery rough area. I think you are right. The post is gone. She commented that he was found, and I think she even deleted the post because I can't find it now
Found safe is all that I have seen posted. His wife put a post on FB this morning and right after i put this thread up, deleted her post.Any injuries? Or did he just get lost and took a while to get reoriented?
Right? I have to leave at least three separate times: when I anticipate being back (at least a few hrs passing); when I could be back by if something unexpected happens…ok to be nervous but do not freak out (1/2 day); and a “do not call anyone until this time passes” (usually 1 day). Backcountry time is different than front country time.He just didn't make it to a predetermined meet up, but sounds like he was alright.
Reminds me of when I was an hour late and had 47 missed calls.
Just curious. For those of you who venture into back country, usually alone ( more guts than I’ve ever had! ), do you carry some sort of pyrotechnic signaling device?
Yep. Whenever I see smoke on a lightning free day I think “a—hole idiot camper” not “I need to start a rescue!” A whistle, I’d go investigate. But a BOOM…that just makes me think about being a crappy hunter compared to whoever just punched their tag.And light half the west on the fire? Ha

I also carry a storm whistle in the emergency kit.
