Hi all, my 13 year old son drew this rifle mule deer tag 10/15-10/31. He's a solid hunter and marksman and has two blacktails under his belt. This is his first mule deer hunt. I've read all the threads and spent a lot of time on Onyx so i have a resonable understanding of the unit. I've hunted mule deer in Idaho but only in the Frank Church. We are staying in Glenns Ferry but will be truck or backpack camping out as needed. Just thought I'd throw this out there to see if there's any Rokslide members in the area.

Very tough unit to hunt Tons of Private & there have been a bunch of fires over the past 5 years & F&G have not replanted any of the burns. Add in the over harvest the bad winters an you have the Typical Idaho hunt.. Garbage !! There have been a lot of people that had the Muzzy tag & the elk tag on MM that didnt see anything except a few on private . That is one of the biggest problems in 45 the deer elk & lopes have moved onto the big tracts of private. If you can find BLM that is close to the AG land that is not over ran with people that would be a good starting point . Try to get away from the main roads & heavy traveled 2 tracks & check out the many vast canyons . There are some good bucks in 45 finding them & them Not on private is another story

Thanks for the reply! Thanks in line with the other information I've found and consistent with our current hunt plan. Will report back after the trip!
