Im looking to buy a pellet rifle for small game but there are so many out there.
looking to spend around $250.00 more or less
any advice would be appreciated

I have had the Gamo whisper .177 for around 10 years. Scope mount it comes with is about junk. Have been using it with the supplied open sights, and have a ball with it. Perfect for policing the backyard varmints. It is capable of laying out rabbits and squirrels at 50 yards, and has gotten a crow at 80. It has been decent, but I probably wouldn't pay full retail for it. Cabelas blows them out every black Friday. Think I paid around 150 on sale.

They are loud if that matters. I have a rws model 48 and it is way louder than I'd like. If you are thinking pest control keep volume of the options in mind.

I have the Whisper Cat as well - it seems loud but no-one has complained yet. Wife compares the shot to a clap. I paid about $95 for it.

Advertises for 1250 fps. Not sure if it does but that sucker will punch thru 3/4 inch plywood at 30 feet but not a 2x4 at 50 feet.

I shoot rats and squirrels and sometimes raccoons with it. Coons always run off but I lung shoot em. Shot a squirrel once thru a picket fence - big puff of fur and dead squirrel.

If you really want to hunt with it, get a .22 caliber version for a little more oomp. If all around play and pests, .177 works great.

I've always had good luck with the old Benjamin Sheridan air rifles. I've had mine for nearly 30 years and killed hundreds of birds and squirrels with it. Plus it is not a spring load so it is not hard on scopes.

We have these huge pack rats around here, so I wanted something with a lot of power and accuracy to help with the problem.

I went on an air gun forum, read up on a lot of different topics and decided to by a Hatsan rifle off of the classifieds.
.25 caliber, pcp style so lots of continuous shooting and the thing is incredibly accurate.

I can’t recall the sites name, but with a $250 budget, it might be worth checking out the forums to see what’s new and relevant.

yep, I had a silver streak for years and years.20 cal. And it was nice. But I have been looking at all the new pcp air rifles, and holy smokes are they expensive, but some are sooo nice, and very cool.

I'd recommend upping your budget a bit and getting a PCP gun, skip the springers unless you are really hard up for cash. Whole different ballgame in terms of low noise, accuracy, and being easy to shoot.

Check out some of these videos, they cover all different types

Can’t go wrong with anything RWS. I have a Chinese knockoff that I got for cheap and it’s pretty deadly.....think it is branded Remington.

Also have a couple RWS in the family and they’re sweet. I like the side cocking ones.

Gamo triggers are horrible. If you get a Gamo, look at charliedatuna.com for a replacement trigger (about $40). I recommend, as others have, get a RWS (Diana) 34 or 45. If you can, buy one with a Rekord trigger, they are really special. You might spend a dollar or two more than your target price of $250, but like optics, the little extra you spend on an air rifle, you will be leaps and bounds above the chinese junk.
Scopes are another thing. Due to the springer action, a normal scope will be junked due to the double (forward and rearward) recoil of a springer. Hawke makes some excellent air rifle scopes, and are priced reasonably. If you buy a WalMart special that comes with a scope, you will get frustrated trying to sight it in. The scopes on most of these rifles are horrble.
Look at Pyramyd Air, they sell every air rifle, and have tested them all. The reviews by customers will give you an idea of what you are in for if you decide which one you want.

I second on skip the springers! They jerk mess up scopes, and are actually pretty loud. A good budget pcp would be a Benjamin Marauder in a .22 or .25 cal. You will smile with every shot!
