I am currently in the beginning stages of slowly hunt planning for the 2028 fall season. The main purpose of this hunt is a diy elk tag for one of my good friends - it will be his only time he ever gets to do a western hunt in his lifetime. He will be 70 that year, and me 31. I want elk to be the main focus for him. I will be in the thorofare the following year so won’t burn my points. He Weill have 5 elk points going into the app and me 5 deer points. What I am getting to is it worth me burning my points to try and hunt an overlapping season when it sounds like October deer is tough. Or just go hunt? We both will apply in the special. If this is a redundant question I’m sorry but just trying to plan this out the best I can. I recommended he go outfitted with me since it is once In a lifetime, but he doesn’t want to spend the money which I understand. Hypothetically let’s say we are hunting together is it best to focus on just one species? If we are hunting separate then we can focus individually in both
Regarding my deer I have also talked with Josh Martoglio of trails west and if I don’t burn my points I will go with him on a deer hunt is my other option.
