I'm looking for a lightweight tarp or rainfly that I can use at camp. It would be nice to have something to sit under in case its raining/snowing or to get out of the sun at camp. Has anyone found a super lightweight tarp that works to pack in case it's needed. Everything I find is around the 1 lb. mark. I would think there has to be something lighter...

I picked up a 2p tent footprint to use as a glassing tarp. It weighs 8 oz and was less than $30. I wouldn’t plan to sleep under it, but you could in an emergency. It’s plenty big enough for 2 guys to sit under if you aren’t expecting horrible conditions.

Kifaru Sheep Tarp weighs in at 9 ounces, I used mine yesterday to weather a little squall at the top of the mountain, had a nice nap listening to the rain drops slapping down in it. I own three tarps now, they all work, but the Kifaru is definitely worth the extra twenty or thirty bucks it costs over the next highest priced one, much sturdier tie out points and the SilNylon is better. I always have a tarp in my pack now, I'd rather have it than a raincoat in my pack unless prolonged rain is in the forecast.

I agree with oldgoat the Sheep Tarp is super versatile and I plan to always have it in my pack. Sitting on a hillside last season in a slight drizzle with my rain jacket on and my 8x10 tarp pulled out to cover my pack and legs while waiting for the twilight hour, I realized I wish I'd had the sheep tarp with me instead of the jacket and 8x10. The sheep tarps size is perfect for a quick shady spot or dry area, perfect to throw over you like a serape, perfect to wrap a pack in as a rain cover, perfect for covering gear outside the tarp or tent, and it's reinforced guy outs and tough material just make it worth the extra few dollars in initial purchase.

I second Seek Outside for a lightweight affordable tarp. I am personally considering the Gunnison to replace the cheap $10 tarp I ordered off the Geek app which has actually served me well and only weighs 10oz.

I just ordered a Sheep tarp for glassing, rain etc. Hard to beat the features for the weight, IMO.

Borah makes one for around fifty bucks. You have to wait for it though

I probably wouldn’t mind shelling out the cash for a nicer tarp if it was only going to be pitched. I plan to use the Borah for a general purpose UL tarp for camp and meat.
