I bought a six pack of 5mm 340 fmjs to try out and I like them but I’m having durability issues . Does anyone have recommendations similar to them gpi . I’m shooting a 29.5” arrow with a 125 tip , right now I’m at 458 grains . Would like to stay between 450-500. Thanks

I would recommend one of the all carbon 5mm shafts...with a key caveat; go up a spine size.

I've been shooting the Axis shafts off and on for 20 years and its the most durable arrow I've seen. Then, going up a size gives you a more durable arrow...I've been shooting overspined for as long as I've been using the Axis and they tune great, super durable.

There are tricks to assembly on those, best to run the BH end on a jig...helps insure concentricity and seats your BH's better.

I really notice the difference in durability when shooting the 400's in my recurve...but you have to match spine in those stick bows...they are really finicky on spine.

I've been shooting gold top kinetics The last year or so. Haven't had any problems with them. With 100 grain head I'm right at 460. They are 9.9 go I believe. I know there are better arrows out there and I'm sure someone will chime in with them.

BEA Rampages or Victory Rips TKO. 300 spine, 75 grain brass hits, 12 grain VPA flanged collar.

340 Easton ACC 50 grain Brass H insert.

300 BEA Spartans, SS insert plus 50 grains of added brass up front.

This is more a post of my .02 of and arrow to say away from. I just went back to gold tip xt 300s from pile driver hunters. I found the pile drivers to be inconsistent, not durable, and abosolute pain in the ASS to remove from target. The arrows welded themselves to the rinehart foam. (Tried sprays, and waxes....didn’t help) I got my xts upto around 450 by added 50gr inserts. That with 125 should get you somewhere between 450-500. Good luck.

I'd second beendare.

Try the regular axis w/ brass HITs to get your weight up.

I switched from regular axis to fmjs to BE rampages and now back full circle to regular 5mm axis and wondering why I ever switched to begin with.

I am not a fan of FMJ's, I'd try the all carbon Axis match grade. My Axis 300's come in at 495gr at 30" with 125's, regular 16gr HIT's, and 20 grains of fletching.

What were your durability issues? I have been using the same FMJ's at 29" and 493 grains total for about the last 5 months now without issue but haven't put a broadhead on them yet, just field points. I did have to throw one out from hitting the back of the arrow with the fieldpoint of another arrow and knicking off a small chunk of the aluminum sheathing.

bingo! I’ve had them about 2 1/2 weeks and 2 of them are not spinning worth a flip. Didn’t hit anything and I’m pulling them out correctly from my bag target .havent even got to trying broad heads out yet. For $80 a half dozen they should be a little more durable than that .

Well, they have an aluminum outer...what do you expect? I've NEVER understood the craze behind the arrows, and conversely, why the ACC isn't a more popular arrow. With aluminum on the outside of the arrow you're just asking for dings and dents.

Hmm, I'll have to keep an eye on that. How fast are the arrows coming out of your setup?

I think some people prefer the FMJ's so they don't have to worry about getting carbon splinters in their hand if their arrow explodes. They also have a really good gpi and small diameter.

That’s exactly why I decided to try them . I wanted to up my gpi and the smaller diameter.
