Long range muzzleloader

Planning on a muzzleloader to be the next evolution of hunting for me but brand new to it. I have been following what arrowhead rifles has been doing for awhile but confused on what makes or brakes the ability for a muzzleloader to shoot long distance (300 to 400 yards) consistently? If possible at all? Is it the barrel, load, Etc?

If the shooter is capable, 400yds is a CHIP SHOT for a custom. We've been shooting 1,000yds in registered competitions and very well could be this summer shooting a mile.

Custom muzzleloaders are not grandpa's muzzleloader. Most all will outshoot any CF if the shooter is capable.

1000 meter sidelock competitions are not a new thing. This is done with swiss, lead and irons.

Knight rifles have won more long range competitions than any other brand shooting to 500yds.
If you're allowed, the 45cal rifles shooting bullet to bore would be the way I would go.

FYI, many jurisdictions do not allow scopes for qualifying for Muzzleloader/Tags/Seasons.

So before buying a real fancy one, check if you can use a scope where you want to hunt, in case you haven't already.

Without a scope, eyesight may be a bigger limiting factory for real life accuracy than the gun, powder, or projectiles.

I know for me, I hunted muzzleloader deer in Nevada, and with my eyesight, I could only get consistent shots in an 8" circle at up to 125 yards with my CVA Accura LRX and the open sights it came with.

Allegedly, with a scope 300"yards shots can be made with the rifle I got, but without magnification my middle-aged eyes limit my range.

Note, fortunately, I did get a deer at 120 yards with it.

whether it’s rifles or muzzleloaders, many factors can come into play to create a high performing LR weapon.

In my experience a quality barrel, and efficient ignition are the foundation to these rifles.

Consistent load charges, and properly sized high BC bullets also play a vital roll.

I am running the new Remington ultimate muzzleloader this year and I took a deer with it at 408 yards. I am shooting 160 grains of BH209 powder and the new Parkers 300gr bullet. I have a 5.5-22x50 NXS scope on it that I had custom turret made for. According to Bob Parker, I should get expansion on that bullet out to abt 550 based on the ballistics chart. During testing of powder charges, I can tell you for 100% certain that the wind really blows that short fat bullet.
