I am looking into purchasing a muzzleloader for next whitetail season. I am looking for a muzzleloader that is reasonably priced (probably less than about $1,000), and is able to shoot consistently and accurately as possible for an over the counter muzzleloader. I know this might be asking a lot out of a muzzleloader, but I wanted to know what muzzleloaders are out there in this price range that can be accurate up to about 200 yards.

I have looked into the CVA Accura MR-X. I have seen mostly positive reviews, but a few are mixed. Does anyone have any experience with the Accura? One thing I really don't like about the Acura is the collapsible ramrod that cannot be stored on the gun. Seems like a nightmare scenario in the case of a reload in the field, but I digress.

Any other suggestions to look into? Thanks again.

I have a CVA optima stainless. Is is plenty accurate for a muzzleloader, and has a very nice trigger. I added the "loose powder" breechplug, and shoot BH209 out of it. I'm sure the accura would be as good or better.

I see a lot of people want to shoot far with muzzleloaders. In my experience, they are really more of a 100-150 yard weapon, for best terminal performance. The trajectory also becomes a rainbow and the bullet is dropping hard beyond that. This does change somewhat if shooting a "smokeless" muzzleloader, which I have no experience with.

The ramrod on my Accura MR is one piece and stored under the barrel?

I think I spent $500 on it. The gun shoots fine as far as I can tell. I have not shot to 200yd enough to say anything about that.

When I purchased, I got the wrong stock and it took some monkeying to get a workable open sight setup.

I have had a Thompson Center muzzy, my son has it now. I like T/C and they have a number of options at various price points, based on quality and options. The encore platform is pretty well known

I would get CVA Scout 45-70 and have the chamber threaded with a breech plug. Use N120 smokeless powder with a 200'ish grain .40 bullet in a Harvester sabot.

Or Woodman arms has a good reputation for their gun or their OMEGA and Rem 700 conversion barrels.
