“Long Range” .270 Win?

I built a 270 AI this spring and have been shooting it the past few months. 23” barrel is giving me up to 3025 with the 170 Berger. The accuracy load seems to be around 2970. Accuracy is slightly below 1/2 MOA out to 800 yards with a 6.4 lb rifle. This build has exceeded my expectations for velocity and it’s low recoil make it a joy to shoot compared to the 7 magnums.

I got dies for this on ebay. What twist?

My buddy kills at long range with his Tikka .270 shooting 150 SSTs and 145 ELDX very effectively. Both are excellent long range killing bullets.

Good thread, Thanks for sharing, I shoot 600 yds using factory rifle and factory load, with acceptable results (i guess) for a new to long range. I can imagine what will be the results with 1:8 twist barrel and hand load. Probably, no need to upgrade to 6.5 PRC then.
I must admit that finding the right load is expensive, I tried about 8 different loads until I landed on the right one.
-Main round: Federal Premium 270 Win 140 gr Berger Hybrid
-Back up round: Federal 270 Win. 136gr Terminal Ascent

I haven’t had this rifle out since last hunting season. The 165 ABLR has proven to have excellent terminal performance on deer. Today I decided to pull it out today and do some shooting. I confirmed zero and then when straight to 700 yards. I’m pretty sure I have the load worked out.

This is a 5 shot group. Solid 0.25 MOA load!

Look out , some pointy head will be along shortly to tell you that your groups are not statistically relevant
Nice shooting

Even if the group is not a statistically significant number of shots, you're looking at a 1/2 to 3/4 moa gun. In reality, that level of precision is basically unheard of in a hunting gun (it's not, but it's pretty rare). Good shooting man!
