Where is the best place to begin looking for an outfitter to guide your next hunt? I was going to plan a hunt for next year using an outfitter and wasn’t sure what the best approach to locating one. I’m interested in a guided moose or elk hunt.

Thanks!

Bowsite has a good outfitter report section. Typically i do my own research and narrow down what i am looking for and then check reviews on it

Generally speaking I would use Google....."elk hunting new Mexico outfitter" or "moose hunting alaska", etc. and then once you get outfitters names and have viewed their websites, google the names of each outfitter and see what kinds of chatter there is online about them. For the good ones, you should see their name in many places, and with positive comments.

For Elk you might also get a subscription to Bugle and look up/research the outfitters who pay to take out ad space in the back of that.

Alot depends on budget too, if you have one. Moose will be cheaper farther south and east in their range...maine, newfoundland......where as Alaska, Yukon, and Northwest Territories will be the most expensive. Do you want a 60-70inch bull or would you be ok with a 50 incher? Etc.

Call and talk to Neil Summers at Bowhunting Safari Consultants. He’s a straight shooter and will help you out.

There's two methods I have used successfully.

Like above, do a lot of research on the net. You can usually find plenty of info on your good outfitters.

Contact an agent. I use Tim Herald at WTA.

Usually when you use a Agent / agency. They have been too or hunted with the outfitters they recommend.
