Liner socks, whats the best?

What's everyone's favorite liner socks?

For hot weather or cold weather?

I have always just ran a good quality wool sock in my boots for hiking/backpacking/hunting, but recently been playing with liner socks to try and keep my feet a bit drier (from sweat). Haven't had great success, but wanted to see what everyone else was doing.

So far I tried a pair from REI that were a bit thicker than I thought best and a pair of military surplus ultra thin poly liner socks. Neither were great.

I like the cabelas calf height polypro liner. It's super thin and wicks sweat well. Not a lot to it so important to get it sized right so it doesn't bunch up etc.. But overall it works great for me.

Smartwool liners work great for me, hot or cold weather. I just replaced a pair that were starting to thin out after 3 years of rough use.

ive been using smartwool liners for a few years but decided to try some lorpen. the fit is really nice but cant speak to long term durability yet. so far they have stayed snug for multiple days though.

I really like merino wool liners. I cannot remember who made mine or where I got them, which is bad, because I could use a few more pairs. Anyway, they are gray in color with a small "M" for the size on the toe.

I used to use polypropylene liners, but my feet would start to feel wet and clammy. And I found I couldn't wear them more than one day. Wool works better for me.

Silk liners are the only thing I use. I like it better than Poly

I would really like to try a pair of silk socks. In my head it makes sense to have a tight liner sock with a very low coef of friction. That way it hugs your foot like a secound skin and the realtive motion is between liner and sock or sock and boot.

Do they have any downsides? To hot? not enought moisture wicking? other?

i use them for the reasons youre thinking and i find better moisture management for me at least.

I like a thin Merino liner sock. The synthetics just don't do it for me as my foot likes to slide around in a poly liner when my feet sweat.

I use smart wool merino liners underneath smart wool hikers, or Darn tough. I used to only use the one outer sock and I highly prefer the addition of a liner. Helps prevent any hot spots and also seems to transfer sweat off the skin better.

Fox river coolmax under smartwool PhD's work well for me, the coolmax wick the moisture away nicely
