Lightweight Stock Recommendation

I just had a Remington short action rebarreled with a little number one barrel cut to 18 inches and threaded for a lightweight suppressor. I need to put a stock on this and I’ve never used any sort of a chassis or anything lightweight that folds with a vertical pistol grip or anything like that. I may not even be using the right terminology, so hopefully it makes sense what I’m describing.

Everything I have sits in sporter stocks, or vertical grip stocks by Manners, Mcmillan or Stockys but nothing that is adjustable and nothing with a chassis. This will be my first. I just need some recommendations on what to get. I don’t even know how to set a budget because I just don’t know what I don’t know. Let me know if this doesn’t make sense or you need clarity on what I’m asking.

Would appreciate some recommendations and would love to even see some pictures.

Thanks

I’m not in a hurry so longer lead times would be fine. I really was thinking I don’t want everything to be disproportionate so that’s why I was looking for lightweight. Since it’s such a thin barrel on this action, I was thinking a lighter weight stock made sense.

Would it be an odd build if I dropped this really thin barrelled action into something like a KRG Bravo? Are there other options if I’m not worried about weight? I’m just brand new to this kind of thing and have never handled anything other than sporter stocks.

This is in the classifieds.

@KickinNDishin uses a Bravo for a thin barreled action, it seems fine.

I have a KRG bravo and a MDT XRS. I much prefer the XRS chassis. The thin profile barrel in a chassis would be personal preference. You could try using google to find images of people with similar setups.

In your OP you stated that you do have some Manners/McMillan/Stockys VG stocks. If that is the case and you like the ergos of a vertical grip, then all the chassis will do for you is provide better rail options up front and some adjustability in the rear. They are also much colder to handle during the hunting months, and tend to be a bit heavier, except for the two already mentioned.

For a barreled action with a light sporter barrel, I think that a Manners Pro Hunter, or McMillan Mountain Tracker LR may be a better option.

Thanks, Handgun. That is helpful. I may look at those stocks. I was intrigued by the idea of something that folded for portability, but definitely open to these other options, especially since it’s sporter stocks that I most familiar with.

Yes, it would be odd. Not so much because the barrel profile is thin but odd because why get a very light profile barrel if you're going to throw it in a heavy stock? It would be ass heavy and not well balanced but that's not the end of the world.

Also there is a small company called S2 Delta, magnesium chassis, we haven't run one yet but the price to weight ratio is strong and they have an even lighter stock coming out for it. Just another brand to look into.

I have been really pleased with the peak 44 blacktooth. At 19 oz it took a lot of weight off. Like it better than the stockys I have . I am not a fan of chassis stocks. I find them a lot more difficult to shoot, especially off a bench doing load developement.

The chassis itself isn't too bad, I have one. However their lightweight buttstock is not great. Super wide uncomfortable cheek piece that sits too far forward. Not comfortable to shoot at all. I wish mdt would make an option to interface the hnt26 buttstock with a buffer tub interface. These two together would be pretty damn solid setup.
