At some point I remember coming across a folding but expandable in height rear rifle rest similar to the rugged ridge one, does anybody know what brand I’m talking about ? I can’t seem to find it and I’m about to break google

If you’re shooting prone at longer range I would skip that style of rear rest and get a bag filled with git-lite. Unfortunately there is no free lunch and anything ultra light will have too much play and will sink during recoil, causing you to shoot high. Whatever you end up with practice practice practice

What's wrong with just using your pack? I run a pretty compressed pack most of the time and have even folded my lid out for a rock solid back rest.

I have one. It’s far from perfect, but it’s better than nothing. Very packable and weighs nothing.
Depends on how you use it. I use my pack out to 5-600 hundred. If I'm shooting father than that I need a better rear support than the ERSS.

The Long Rang Only mini wedge is legit if you have that style of stock.

I have the light fill. It’s very light. I’d pack it anywhere.

I like these if I have a chassis with a bag rider, very lightweight for hunting

We used to run and gun coyotes 5-7 evenings a week. Quick hop out the atv and you better get prone and get your shot off as soon as they turn and stop. Shots anywhere from 50 yards to well over 1,000.

A lightweight rear rest is doable with proper mechanics and not fully relying on the rest itself. Using your off hand in different positions paired with the lightweight rear rest is doable at reasonable yardages on quick moving targets.

For big game there are better options available when you likely have more time for a long range field shot.

It’s 1 1/2 lbs and the size of a loaf a bread. Not exactly insignificant. Or am I missing a smaller and lighter option?
You can hook a small carabiner on it and attach it to your pack. If a rear bag is a priority to you then it's not a big deal. It won't take up and space. I don't know the exact weight of mine.
