I've been shooting an old Savage 110 in 270 WIN that, with scope and strap, clocks in over 9 pounds. I'd love to downsize a bit. I'm a small guy and not getting any younger, and we get after it in terms of mileage chasing elk.

Any thoughts on best options for a leftie lightweight rifle that I could upgrade in the future? I'm looking for a threaded barrel.

I'm leaning towards the 110 Ultralite, but the Mesa FFT also comes in a leftie version and price and weight are comparable. I'd spend more if there was a lifetime gun out there I could setup. Much appreciate any thoughts.

I found a Tikka T3X lite at Cabelas a few years ago in 6.5 CR and it followed me home. I haven't used it much but man is it light and very accurate. Action is hella smooth. Only downside is I had to have it threaded but I'm glad I did. It's got a Polar on it and very easy on the shoulder

For us southpaws, a Tikka based rifle build will be the easy button. Even if a guy has unlimited budget. Bed a plain Jane T3x Lite or Superlite bbld action into a Peak 44 or other carbon stock and go.

Thanks for the input.

@JimIsland how did the threading process go? Routine job? And what pitch did you get it threaded in? I'm seeing some people saying elsewhere the barrel on the 6.5 is too thin for threading.

@Wrongside wondering if you have opinions there as well.

I'm looking at cutting a 22" down to 20" and getting it threaded. Thanks guys.

The 1/2-28 threads usually require a max OD of 0.600" in order to have a good shoulder for the can/muzzle device to seat against. I did meet a gunsmith who told me if I provided the muzzle device, he could cut threads without a 0.600" OD because he would have the front of the threads seat against the device.

Would suggest you check with the gunsmith cutting them and see what they can do.
