I ran a 1.5-5X Leupold for Alaska and trained hard for months prior to going to make sure it was always set at 1.5X. It was for caribou/ bear protection. Well one day I left it on 5X which was weird because I always return my scopes to the lowest magnification. Since then I place more priority as a bear protection for this rifle I put a fixed 2.5X M8 Leupold on there now. But there are a ton of 1-4X or 1-6X that would work also.I have a mount and base.
Looking at scopes themselves
What about a red/green dot? No need for magnification with the limited range abilities of those rounds imho. Faster on target than a scope with magnification and if you are in bear country it is effective day and night. Weight is also reduced vs a scope. Mount scout style, loads of options and you can carry the rifle by the action still. Use a quick release mount and it is easy to remove by hand in the off chance you have a failure. Then you always have your trusty peeps to use. Just some thoughts
