I ended up with the DNZ. Have the henry and Ranger precision rails if you want to go that route

I have a mount and base.

Looking at scopes themselves
I ran a 1.5-5X Leupold for Alaska and trained hard for months prior to going to make sure it was always set at 1.5X. It was for caribou/ bear protection. Well one day I left it on 5X which was weird because I always return my scopes to the lowest magnification. Since then I place more priority as a bear protection for this rifle I put a fixed 2.5X M8 Leupold on there now. But there are a ton of 1-4X or 1-6X that would work also.

What about a red/green dot? No need for magnification with the limited range abilities of those rounds imho. Faster on target than a scope with magnification and if you are in bear country it is effective day and night. Weight is also reduced vs a scope. Mount scout style, loads of options and you can carry the rifle by the action still. Use a quick release mount and it is easy to remove by hand in the off chance you have a failure. Then you always have your trusty peeps to use. Just some thoughts

I put an old Leupold fixed 3x on my 444 with quick detach mounts. Ghost ring for back up. The 3x also rides on a 358Win and 9.3x62 occasionally. I’d think the newer 2.5x Leupold would be about perfect.

The skinner peep sight works very well, I used it on my Savage 99. I have recently been thinking of trying a lpvo on the 99 one of these days

Leupold fixed 2.5X. 8 Oz's that lasted 20 years on a variety of 358 Norma's to 458 Winchesters...when it finally developed a rattle It was replaced by Leupold with a brand new one free of charge which is better in every way. Great eye-relief and enough magnification for a big bore lever.

Just put a Primary arms slx 23mm red dot with acss reticle on an old win 30/30.

Used a Pearson tac rail as it is a top eject.

70 rounds & Like it so far. It’s accurate enough at 100 yards for hunting. Quick target acquisition, and light enough.

Looks wise it’s not too “aesthetic” but it’s really fun to be able to shoot my lever gun at 100+ yards.

Was about to get an optic ( either Leupold fixed or Burris 2x7) but this seems to work for me just fine so far.

My buddy’s Marlin and +p loads was outshooting a lot of bolt guns with a Leupold 1.5x5. Seemed like an ideal combination.

I have a VX3 2.5-8x36 on my 444 Marlin. No complaints.

I definitely wouldn’t go any larger. If anything I would go smaller.

Marlin GG .45/70 had leupold rings and bases holding a VX3 1.5x5. Now has DNZ game reaper mount holding the same scope.

Remlin Trapper .45/70 has skinner peeps on it.

For most applications I use lever guns for Red Dots meet the need. I run Vortex/Holosun Red Dots depending on rifle and if I want donut of death or dot only.
