Lever Action anyone?

Joined the club and picked up a Ruger Marlin 336 Trapper in .30-30 recently, first lever gun. Got it to the range but it's shooting insanely high at 100 yards, nearly 12" high in fact, with Leverevolution 160's.

Anyone else experienced similar with their Ruger Marlin 336 Trappers? Three of us shot it off the lead sled and all got the same result, doesn't seem the peep can be adjusted further down from the factory to correct it.

Not sure where to go from here besides contacting the factory.

Peepsight doesnt screw down?

Why do you need a lead sled to shoot a 30-30?
It does not, seems to be bottomed out from the factory.

Off-hand even at 50 it was shooting absurdly high, so we tried to remove as many human error elements/variables as possible and dial it in.

That is a Skinner sight on your rifle. The peep can be screwed down be loosening a Allen head set screw. Unless it's already screwed all the way down. That's one of Skinners bear buster front sights. If the peep is bottomed out you should be able to get a taller front sight.

I am desperate to kill a buck with irons...
I have only taken 3 animals with irons and they have all been pleasant experiences. If you are able to screw that post in enough to at least get a 6 o’clock hold, that would be sweet. At the range and in the field, it has been working very well for me, and I like the fact that I can keep good track of the target and its surroundings. I have doubts it would be any form of decent past 200 yards though.

Just ordered in a marlin 336cs in 35 Remington I found online. Sure hope it’s as nice as the pictures look. I was really set on a new Ruger marlin In 30-30, but they are out of stock everywhere and on limited production. I’m a sucker for odd ball calibers. Can’t wait for the phone call saying it’s here.

keep eyes peeled for Ruger in 35 REM. They quietly announced but didn’t provide timeline

Is that the stock furniture? Or did you upgrade it? Looks great either way.
Thanks It came stock like that. That is the nicest scope I’ve ever owned. It’s gonna be a great gun for white tails in the thick stuff.

My wife shoots a Marlin 336 in 30-30. I reload for her, Hornady FTX 160gr pills propelled by Leverevolution. Shoots about 1.5” at 100 metres
Now I am a member of the “Lever” club. I had a friend gift me his FIL’s Winchester 94. I ran the serial number, it was made in 1965… same year as me! Now to clean it up and see if it shoots.

I use my 30-30 all the time when hunting pigs. Great rifle! I have bad eyes so it’s not the best for far shots but anything 150yds away really knocks them down.

I also recommend the 160 FTX and Leverevolution powder.
I handload my own and this is three shots at 200 with iron peep sights.
Bottom shot was with the front bead covering the target, and the top two were with the bead resting on top of the target
