Had anyone used one of these in timber hunting situations? I saw one at the sporting good store the other day and was impressed with the FOV and brightness. I think it could work great in the timber but wasn’t sure if that low of magnification was necessary. It’s been a long time since I have taken a shot over 60 yards still hunting.

I've got both the Leupold 1.5-5x and 2.5-8x scopes.
They get a ton of use here in the Ozarks where we almost never shoot beyond 200 yards.
They work very well.

I had one a while back, sold it with the rifle it was on. Also had a similar nikon monarch and still have an old weaver 1.5-4.5. I like those low power scopes for the field of view—tracking in the snow where you jump a buck and it reappears “over there” kind of stuff— but have gravitated more to a little higher top end magnification as my eyes have gotten older. Ive pretty much gotten away from any leupold scopes at this point but a 2-7 or 2-10 or similar would be my preference now, I appreciate the extra magnification, a little brighter in low light due to the larger objective, and the field of view still pretty big. Cant say I miss seeing my barrel in the scope either.

I just picked up one of them for my browning BLR so I can have a better timber gun, haven’t shot an animal yet but impressed with the scope, I came to the realization that I needed to do this when I was hunting in timber with my long range set up gun ( no idea why id even bring it) went from a 3-9 x40 luepold to the 1.5-5x20. Can’t wait to get it out.

Would you really see your barrel?

Couple years ago I got a 2.5-10x bushnell trophy extreme that I got too good a deal on to pass up, new I paid like $50. I figured what the heck, try it out. It’s actually pretty crisp and has held a zero better than my leupold scopes. Anyway, that scope is now on my 7600 carbine, which has an 18” barrel. At 2.5x the field of view is wide enough that I still see the very end of the barrel. It disappears at about 3x. But yes, every scope with what I consider a wide field of view you will see the barrel at lower magnification. I dont actually find it distracting as its not really a “solid object” in the field of view, I was mostly just exercising my overly developed sense of sarcasm.

Old thread I know but I am looking at this exact scope for a CVA Scout in 300 Blackout with a suppressor. I bet at 1.5X the can will be very visible in the FOV.
