Im now down to one watch.

Swatch was a big deal in the 80s when I was a kid. Seemed to have disappeared.
Went to Vegas a few years ago and the casino we stayed in had a Swatch shop, so I picked one up. That thing has been a work horse! Takes a beating, I lost it for a whole year in my storage unit. Boiling hot to freezing cold. Found in and it was fine.
Probably one of the better $100.00 buys I've made

Put on the new Nick Mankey Designs ‘Chrono Grip Single Pass’ onto the Pelagos 39.
I really like it so far. A lot higher quality than cheaper versions while still being half the price of an Erika’s Originals MN after shipping from Europe.

How do you like the security of the G style hook on the NM strap? The Watch Steward G-Series function the same, but I always wonder if I’ll hit it just right to knock out the hook from the sleeve. Doesn’t seem like that would be possible with the EO design J hook unless you wore the watch extremely loose.

That’s a valid concern. I also thought the same thing, so, I used my smooth faced Knipex pliers to slightly bend the titanium hook closed a bit. It’s now just enough closed that it’s a bit fiddly to fasten, but also takes concerted effort to remove it. I don’t see a case where it could be opened inadvertently, as if you pull on it, the downwards facing hook catches on the materials and prevents it from sliding through.

Yea there is a swatch boutique here too. They are still $100 watches. They hold time well. They are light and frankly feel cheap. They make some really neat designs though. I still like it and the complications on it with the earth and moon phase are neat. Its also kinda nice to have it a quartz movement so I dont have to wind it if I dont wear it. That particular watch was much more then $100 after omega gets paid for their branding and sony gets paid for snoopy.

For those who are watch collectors, enthusiastic, etc.

What are some of the best watches under $200 to look for? I know that’s sort of a low price point but that’s where I’m at.

I’m especially interested in dive watches and field watches. Compass watches are also of interest.

I’m a huge fan of seiko automatic watches, I have mostly divers, and a few field watches. Field watches are usually thinner, no rotating bezel, and many won’t have a day/date window. The idea with field watches is to keep them simple and easy to read, but many are just as waterproof as a diver. I have one field watch that’s hand-wind only, not an automatic, in the true spirit of a field watch. A few of my other favorite watch brands are: Islander, Phoibos, and Spinnaker, check out Spinnaker, they can have some pretty good deals. I get lots of my watches on eBay it’s a good way to save money. As far as field watches go, Hamilton is pretty well known for those, but probably a little outside of your price range.

Casio Duro MDV106 – best cheap dive watch, 200m water resistance, super reliable
Casio G-Shock DW-5600 – toughest all around digital watch
Seiko 5 Sports SRPG – best mechanical field watch in the price range
Timex Expedition Compass – solid budget field/compass style watch

If you want one safe pick, go Duro for dive or Seiko 5 for mechanical.

If anyone is interested in trying out a midrange seiko diver I have an SPB143 that I dont think I will wear much now that i have a pelagos 39 and would like to sell.

Really? I have a love hate relationship with mine. I have some great memories with it but it doesn’t keep time from crap, I gain about 2 to 3 mins a day

That’s out of the tolerance range for sure. That would be ok for a month but not a day. Most automatic watches can be adjusted, meaning sped up or slowed down. If yours has a display case back you can look and see the +/- indicator where you adjust it.
