Can you tell me about what you did here? I’m wanting to do something similar and would love your experiences and advice.

I’m assuming you’re asking how I ended up with a .35 Whelen Tikka?

I went the long round about way but basically it’s custom barrel on a Tikka T3X and while it was at the gunsmith I had the bolt fluted because it looks cool!

It’s a custom barrel that I had on a Ruger MKII but was finding the Ruger too heavy to be ideal. I found out that Ruger and Tikka uses the same thread size and pitch so I unscrewed the barrel off the Ruger and had the gunsmith re-screw it on the Tikka. The Ruger has a shorter tenon so the chamber had to be touched up a bit longer but it was pretty simple.

Interesting. How long is the barrel? Are you happy with it? I’m considering getting one rebored to 35 Whelen. What kind of accuracy and velocity are you seeing? How is the recoil?
Thanks for all the info.

The barrel is 22" and I'm very happy with it. I had already shot a moose with it when it was a Ruger but it was heavier then I liked it especially once I added the Nigjforce. The barrel is very accurate and didn't want to sell the rifle. Re-purposing the barrel was the logical answer. I used to shoot 225gr TSX but last year decided to go with the 200gr TTSX at 2950fps with TAC. This is .338 Win Mag territory in power and recoil.

Here's a 10 shot group at 100yds. The shot to the left was before making an adjustment and shooting 10.

Wow man this is great info. Now I’ve gotta make the decision on 22” or 20” barrel. I really like the numbers you are getting with the 22” but I also want to run a can. Decisions decisions. Really like what you’ve done here and thanks for all of the info.

Have killed several bucks with this rifle and it is also the most accurate and best feeding rifle I’ve ever owned. 30-06 stainless T3x. I had it bedded by Tumbleweeds Custom Guns in a Stocky Hunter stock. I didn’t love the fit direct from Stocky’s and as you can see Mark’s bedding is impeccable. Also first go with UM rings. I can’t imagine I’d go back to anything else.
