That looks like a primo budget nrl setup especially for someone who’s already got an extra bravo laying around. Does it shoot tight?
It’s always been my tightest barreled action, and that hasn’t changed in the Bravo. Extremely shootable.

Had this one rechambered this one to 22cm, cut to 17", threaded with flare, and fluted by kampfield. Shooting the 88 eldm very well out to 1000. Love this gun so far, gonna use it for deer this year. Waiting for my rokstock to show up next week so I can drop my 6-6.5 prc in it, hopefully it'll help me spot impacts better but its shooting great too. Right now its in a stockys vg2, gonna use that one for elk this year

25-284 is done.
  • Stainless Tikka T3x action and factory trigger
  • 22" McGowen #3 in .257 with 7.5 twist and 5/8-24 threads
  • Unknown Munitions chambered/receiver threaded/mounted in .25-284
  • Salmon River Solutions 20 MOA rail (integral dovetail is damaged)
  • SWFA 30mm TAC lows and SWFA 6x-42 (Butler Creek caps)
  • Mountain Tactical DBM and LA bolt stop
  • Boyd's prairie hunter (aggressively free floated to fit the #3 contour)
  • Limbsaver recoil pad
  • KGM R30T
Shot first 20 rounds today after pressure testing a few days ago. It took 2 shots to set zero and then I shot 18 for effect. Target is 1.25" and distance was 100 yards. Had pretty bad mirage by the last 5 or 6 shots, and without this I think I could've gotten them all in the bull.

Kind of a zombie Tikka T3x, proof sendero light barrel in 7MM Rem with 1-8.5, super varmint stock. Removed the plastic piece from the front of the stock, filled holes, shaped and sanded. Rattle can paint job. Just wasn't impressed with most aftermarket stocks, pretty happy with how it turned out.

1-8 twist .243 fluted barrel that Morgan at Class 3 Machining cut to 16.5” and threaded 1/2-28 for me.
Ate and grouped well with about 5 different 100 grain BS hardware store ammos. Although it liked 90 gr ELD X’s and 95 gr Winchester Nosler Ballistic tips the best. UM 103 gr ELD X handloads inbound. Sitting in a Tikka Super Varmint stock bought cheap on EBay then put in pillars and an oversized recoil lug. UM 30mm low rings wrapped around a Nightforce 3-10 SHV. Pretty heavy but still handy as hell and put together stout. Shoots better than I’m able. Rang steel with boring regularity up in the granite behind the pond there at 600 yds.
*8/4/24: Gotta give Morgan Richey at Class 3 Machining some serious props once more.
Just tried factory Hornady 100 gr Interlocks and they’re groupin sub 5/8” out of this barrel he worked over for me. Runnin about 2700 fps. Stoked on this set up to say the least.

Put together another Tikka .260 with some parts I had laying around…

Stainless Action
Factory Stainless Fluted Barrel
Stockys VG2
Maven RS1.2 MIL
UM Tikka Rings
High Desert Stainless Bottom Metal
UM Tikka Bolt Handle

This one will be an all weather nasty practice gun. Plan to go to the Wood RokStok with this one to call it “done”. Probably a shorter threaded Sako/Tikka barrel and can by then.

All de-greased and paint penned in, action screw to 65” lbs, ring bases and ring caps properly torqued. It’s ready for some miles!

After 135 pages of reading and two years of piecing this together, I can finally jump in on this thread.
Love the look of the super varmints, but they don’t make it for us south paws. We’ll call this, the “super sporter.”

T3x Lite in 270win
-Leupold VX Freedom 4-12x40 CDS (Not torqued down in picture so don’t @ me)
-DNZ Game Reaper Low
-Atlasworx bolt handle/shroud
-Kalix Teknik CR1
-Magpul MOE Bipod
-Limbsaver
-Rustoleum Deep Forest Green
-Barrel free floated, trigger @ 2lbs

Future plans: Bottom metal? 280AI barrel? Who knows. But for now, some range time for zeroing then get ready for another Newfoundland moose hunt. 🤘

McGowan #4. Don’t recall the weight off the top of my head, but about 4oz lighter than the 22” light profile carbon 6 280ai (featherweight? Can’t remember what they call it). That .338 hole in the middle does a great job lightening a barrel!

Hey Sam, what diameter does that barrel finish at? Is it threaded 5/8×24?

Will be ordering a 17 or 18" from mcgowen to run supressed

I keep trying to come up with a reason to build a 25-284. Love the 284 case, have a couple 6.5-284 and a 338-284. I’ve already got a 1/4 bore (257Ackley), though it is pretty COAL limited in a model 7, so I didn’t twist it fast since long bullets don’t fit well anyway.

It made sense for me, because I already had a Tikka in .25-06. As a result, I didn't have to swap out the bolt or bolt stop, and I could use the same mags.

I loved the .25-06 performance, but I wanted to shoot the 130 class bullets and the 1:10 factory barrel and action restricted the options. I know you can get DBM that support longer magazines, but I'm not sure this solves the action length restrictions on OAL. Regardless, with the .25-284 you can use standard DBM and mags, and the same goes for 25 Creed if you went that route, saving a few hundred bucks in aftermarket parts.

With the 130 class bullets seated at the boattail/case neck junction, you can reliably use standard L mags, and you essentially get the same performance as a .25-06 with better case life and reduced trimming due to the 35 vs. 40 degree shoulder. At around 2900 MV in a 22" barrel, the 134 ELDM maintains over 1800 FPS to roughly 975 yards with good trajectory and wind deflection. With a 24 or 26" barrrel you probably get over 1,000 yards, but I wanted to shoot suppressed without it being too long and unwieldy. At normal hunting distances, it's a lazer.
