My gear closet and tiny garage is getting out of hand and creeping into a not so obliging Mrs’ space.

Looking for inspiration from the more organized/OCD members of the forum.

I keep my items in Rubbermaid tubs, with like items. One for shelters, one for sleep systems. The consistently used goods are in a smaller pelican case.

Not super practical in most cases, but I remodeled the bathroom last month and managed to double the closet space. We did a purge of all the clothing that would never be worn again (I got rid of a couple of t-shirts so my wife didn't feel like I wasn't trying).

We're still in remodel mode, but that spare closet is going to turn into built in cabinet/drawer system with space for another gun safe. It has a 6x6 door opening, is 8x8 interior and 30" deep. I'll leave 3 feet of closet rod on one end, put a cabinet under that and the rest will be cabinets with adjustable shelves.

At my previous house, I had two 4x8 hanging ceiling storage racks in the garage. That worked really well.

Lockers and clear totes……before you store your stuff, trim the fat and get rid of the stuff you don’t need……maybe offer to a new hunter here in the forums.
Definitely a few things that I’m hanging on to that I could stand to part with. I like the idea of offering items to new hunters in the forum.

I have a small space as well I have an area about 6’ wide at the most. I built shelves just big enough for totes to fit on, about 30” wide. Pack like things into the totes and label. Obviously heavier totes on the floor. Works really well. Can pull out what I need and slide the tote back in after I did what I’m looking for.

Do you think it would have been better to just build a hanging shelf? Maybe alleviate the weight issues?

Large filing cabinets are $5 the thrift store. I also got an old school folding table with a metal legs for $5 at the thrift store. I put all of my small items into quart size zipper bags, And they get organized by category and then put into dollar store open top locker bins. Packs are hang from 3" screws above my bench, sleeping bags stay in a bag and hang as well. Big stuff like tents and camp cookware go into categorized totes.

I have small plastics shoebox size bins for misc.

Guns go in a 20-gun gun case with storage on the bottom for ammunition.
