Let's see some NRL hunter rifles

Are tripods really necessary?

I think it depends on the match. You certainly need a way to shoot above knee to thigh high obstructions at many venues. Some it’s once or twice. Some it’s every stage. Really depends on venue and match director. You could use wiser quick stix for example but you certainly need a way to get your gun up off the ground.

Currently running a custom blue printed 700 action, KRG Bravo polymer chassis, 24" custom contour barrel that SHOOTS!, Tricer double pull bipod (using short legs), and - the problem- an Arken 5-25x optic, and a Banish titanium can, (not the problem) JUUUUSSSTTT making weight by less than a half ounce and that is without a sling but with full length Arca rail. Looking to swap to a Viper PST Gen 2 5-25 Mil/FFP from the classified section.
If I swap to the Vortex, I can use the long leg sections on my modified tricer bipod and still have weight to spare for extras that I want to add like the adjustable butt height chassis add-on, VTAC sling which I love when using with my tripod, bag rider rail, and etc's or whatnots to be decided later.
Is there any reason NOT to upgrade the optic other than pissing off the Roksliders who hate Vortex for failing the drop test and not addressing that issue?
Doing my first match in Oklahoma at Best of the West in two weeks or so, although I have observed one NRL-H match and been the medic for one match, so my experience level is low in this game but my experience level in LR shooting is fair to middlin' i guess. I also host/teach LR hunting classes a couple times a year here on our Ozark farm.
Input appreciated, although I don't have time/money to do a proper upgrade to the S2H optic or a NF level optic sadly - this is an interm upgrade to get me through the first match, + a LR class in April, + one more in May in Washington.

Historically sling was considered safety equipment and thus didn’t count toward your weight. May want to verify that’s still the case. Your sling should be good to go.
