Just got a UD 5, very impressed with price point and workmanship. Here is my biggest gripe and I haven’t had it in the field just yet, but it was kind of driving me nuts yesterday when I was assembling it. The fact the trigger is partially exposed while seated in the chassis. I’m not too hard on my stuff but often 3/4th rifle brings lots of snow and that didn’t thrill me. I cannot say enough about how easy UD is to deal with and shipping times and communication. They are a fantastic company. Maybe I’m just being a stickler but it drives me nuts seeing that portion of the trigger exposed. Have you have field experience with yours?

I just got an UD 3 chassis from Midway, I had a coupon for 30 or 40% off so I used it. Nice chassis, and I had a 26 varmint 308 R700 going in it, but now it has a 16.5" barrel since I got out the chop saw lol may not shoot it till the Spring lol but wacking off that 10" of barrel saved over a pound.

Hadn't evenn thought of that but I'm in Hawaii so no snow here. I usually don't keep one in the chamber when hiking around either so that hadn't crossed my mind until you posted about it. Took it out for one hunt last week but that was it, not a whole bunch of shooting time behind it.

Orange is the prc I built her. Green is same stock on a different setup. Easy to swap in and out. [mention]XLR [/mention] might have a better setup now for kids. Not sure!

Let me see if I have a photo on my phone. I just slapped it together with an old bushmaster stock and tube I had just to see how I liked it before I chopped the barrel off and I remember weighing it, but never looked at anything closely lol

Here is the photo I had on my phone, I guess it does extend down a little bit but in Tenn I’m not worried about snow lol but I see your point, hope the photo downloads but I didnt start this build for a kid. I did it for me to see if I could build something similar to a sig cross with a rifle I was doing nothing with Lol and so far I like the balance and everything, I just haven’t shot it.

Thanks for the pic, looks great. Yeah seems less visible than with the tikkas. I’ll have to take mine in the the field and see if my worry is justified or not. Like I said can’t say enough good things about UD’s customer service.

My buddy has one. His daughter killed her first buck with it this year. I really dislike the trigger and pistol grip on it though.

I agree with the trigger. My only dislike. It’s serviceable but not good.

Yes I should have stated that. For an adjustable, lightweight rifle for a youth it’s a great option.

lol I guess it’s the circle of life, me at 58 loves the shorter, lighter, less recoiling stuff lol

I still build 'rifles for the kids', who are both driving now, but that's just the story to sleep better at night, I build them for me, and they sometimes shoot things with them.

They are welcome to take some of them when they go but they can build whatever they want with their money down the road. Just like I like to do haha, and if they have kids...they can build more guilt free as well.

I see what you are talking about now. I got home and took out the bolt and yes the trigger “guts” are pretty exposed, you can actually see through the trigger guard and up through it. I got to thinking maybe that’s a good thing? At least water, dirt and snow have a way out instead of building up in the inside? Just thinking and I could be totally wrong in that perception being a good thing. Here are some photos I tried to get with my phone.
