I was thinking the same thing- I cant stay warm in one^^ That looks brutal cold.
I know a bunch of guys who tried hammocks and nearly froze to death. What's your secret?
Sound advice. Anyone that’s froze or even got chilled in a hammock didn’t have good quilts. You hear about the horror stories but, they were using a pad or sleeping in a bag with no under side insulation. If you do it right, you will be snug as a bug in a rug. And sleep like a rock.Proper FN insulation! LOL
There is a bit of a learning curve to it. Or you can do what I did and buy this book:

A good UQ & TQ with a Doobie for added comfort. I own several quilts for every kinda weather. Ya just gotta dial in the right ones for the trip. BTW...snow was blowing sideways everyday for a week during this hunt, stopped for 2 whole hours one day. Crazy weather. The wind was rippin' all night...this is the side of my tarp facing the wind. The other side was hiked up so I could see out (see previous post). Not cold at all. Awoke before dawn when a flock of chatty turkeys collected under my tarp.

There's a good bit of variety, but I believe most of what you're seeing are mountain laurels.@pd23 what kind of trees are those surrounding your tent?
