LEM VS MEAT YOUR MAKER

How'd I miss this originally. Dual grind is freaking sweet, will never go back. My #12 lem eats an elk and 3-5 deer a year. Anything that size or bigger is going to work well.

Thanks guys. I think dual grind is the way to go for me. My wife doesn’t like the large chunks in coarse.

I’ll have to figure out the nuances once I get it.

Now, I just need to decide on MEAT vs LEM 100%

I did chat with Scheels and asked if they would match manufacturer prices, and they made it sound like they would.

Outside of Black Friday, are there any regular sales at LEM or MEAT?

The best deals I found on LEM was to signup for notifications and wait for a refurb sale to show up. Sometimes they’ll throw out a 12 hour only deal and if you’re lucky with free shipping. I haven’t been following it so I’m not sure if they still do those but that was by far the best pricing. If they do one of those jump on it quick because they can sell out before the time runs out. I missed one because I waited until I got home and it was too late. Luckily it came back around but I had to wait awhile. BTW all of the refurb stuff I bought was new. It all looked like unused returns where just the packaging was beat up. They do run regular sales often so sign up and see what comes down the pike.

Been using a 1/3hp LEM for over a decade 1-2 elk and 4-5 deer a year without a hiccup.

Two passes through the coarse plate makes great burger

Thanks. I’m pretty much committed to Scheels with the gift cards. I doubt they’ll match refurb.

I did Sign up for alerts. We’ll see what comes down.

Might be worth considering the size of the grinder as much or maybe more than the brand. They're both made in China. I dealt with smaller grinders for 20 years. LEM, Cabelas, whatever. They were all basically typical $300 grinders, 3/4 HP supposedly, probably less in real life. They all kinda sucked to use because of the prep work you had to do beforehand.

Finally I bought a #32 MEAT brand grinder on some crazy sale. I think 4 years ago now. It's single grind because that's all they had back then. It does 20 pounds per *minute*. Two guys cannot keep it fed. It is seriously faster than two guys shoving meat in as fast as they can. I use the food petal which is practically a requirement because the grinder is so fast.

I don't chunk the meat. I don't prep the meat. It comes out of the cooler or meatbag and directly into the grinder. It will eat a whitetail blackstrap without stopping (if you wanted to do that). The big muscles on an elk hindquarter...I just cut them lengthwise so they will barely fit, diameter wise, into the feed opening of the grinder. The meat comes out at the same temp it went in. The grinder is agnostic to silver skin, tendons, whatever.

All of which is to say, they're both quality products made in China. Get a bigger one than you think you need. If this one ever breaks I will buy another #32 (whatever is cheapest). It cuts your prep time to zero.

The grinder is also much quieter than smaller grinders.

Anyway you prob can't go wrong either way, but between a #32 MEAT and a smaller LEM for the same price for me it's a simple choice.
