There's never any shortage of premium tags amongst any of them....
The best landowner and auction tags money can by

I dont think I really look up to any hunting celebs. The ones I’ve met didn’t come across genuine or very well. Lots and lots of regular people IMO that are representing hunting better

How come noone mentioned
Lots of YouTube folks. I love that. Such low barrier to entry, and you aren’t subject to tv rules (23 minutes of content, selling of commercials and I show ad slots, shooting of bedded animals, etc). They can just hunt and if they are interesting they start making money.

A waterfowl group I love to watch on YouTube is Smackem Outdoors up in North Dakota. Killers
I gave them a follow. Thanks for the heads up.

I can hate with the best of them. I’m all for a good insta hunter bashing thread but I never see anything on the other side.

I’m curious if anyone has first or second hand examples of where ‘famous’ hunters are legit killers or badass woodsmen?

I have one example of an overrated person first hand but second hand from a guide friend I know, I’ve heard Remi is a true killer.

Who is worth watching and listening to?
I don’t watch or follow any hunters, but do listen to some hunting podcasts and watch some YouTube hunting videos. I can’t handle much cam Hanes, but he is legit and started as a nobody who killed a bunch of stuff on public land… don’t watch or listen to him, but very much respect what he’s done.

Remi seems like a super down to earth guy and he is a killer for sure, and doesn’t have an ego. I used to listen to his closing the distance podcast and watch some of his stuff occasionally.

The bigger more popular western YouTube channels lost their vanity to me, don’t dislike them, just not into watching or listening to them, and none of them are great hunters, kinda one dimensional do the same thing no matter what, it’s just not enjoyable to watch to me.

I think Brian Barney is a pretty solid guy too, and seemingly a very well rounded hunter that has the right mindset, I’m sure there are plenty, but I assume watch the less known YouTube channels, a couple are good, one in particular always puts out a great late archery blacktail video each year, but more search for critters I want to see hunted and cull the ones that I can’t watch and eventually find some good ones.

I think in the influencer era, most people seem to try sharing more knowledge than they have, and those people I have no desire to watch or listen to, and most of them are doing just that. It’s getting harder to find hunting content that’s authentic and not out of their proverbial lane

Never talked to them until about a week ago. My cousin in law was diagnosed with stage 4 rectal cancer, and his idols are the born and raised dudes. My cousin is 41, but due to a mental disability, he’s about 11 or 12. So I emailed born and raised and told them about the situation and asked for a letter I can pass along to make my cousin in law’s day better. Trent reached out to me on my cell phone an hour later asking how he could get a message to my cousin. After messaging for awhile, he sent me a couple minute long video with a message for my cousin containing some really heart warming and genuine stuff. That alone impressed me enough to spend some time watching their videos. Idk about the rest of them, but Trent is a genuinely good man.
I don’t watch BRO very much, but Trent seems like a very genuine person, and that’s really cool from both of you.

I like Steve too, when I used to watch most of their videos he didn’t really seem to fit into the crew, but he is a big asset to BRO, always down, tough, and doesn’t complain other than a little meant drama for videos, but he seems like a solid guy too

Not sure any of these guys are exploiting the resource with the exception of the guys mentioned that were caught poaching. As long as folks are applying for tags and licenses like anybody else legally and taking care of their kills, the only difference is they're filming their hunts and posting them online. Some make more money than others.

I do take exception for the "celebrity" hunters that are awarded governor's and other "special" tags soley for promotional purposes.
On this very thread there’s reports of a celebrity who ONLY hunts for business.

How is that not exploitation?

You can exploit something you love

Well, that's one way to look at it. However, you may want to consider the revenue creation for GA residents provided by NR turkey hunters. There is also the trickle down effect of greater visibility and investment into turkey habitat based on increased hunter recruitment, licenses, and memberships into NWTF and other conservation organizations. However, I understand how easy it is to be selfish and only think about your "lost" opportunities.

IF the THP haters ever watched their programs, you would see that none of them are wealthy. They do this because they're able to do what they love and make a decent living. These are dudes with formal sciences/biology education and real world experience with Midwest Whitetail. Over the last 6 years they've built a following that relates to their "low rent" style and "buddy" approach. They win some and lose some, and freely share experiences for both.

Several of the THP guys live in the same bachelor pad they went in together to purchase in Southern Iowa. With one exception (the weird Al Yankovic looking guy drives a newer Ford) they all drive older vehicles without expensive advertising wraps and stickers, and often sleep in their vehicles (planned or not) when traveling to hunts. During the deer tour last year, one guy could barely keep his old Honda running with battery, overheating, and flat tire troubles. Maybe give these "elite" "celebrities" a chance before cussing them for taking $25,000.
THE STATE LITERALLY SHORTENED THE SEASON IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS

Why?

Hold on. I’m gonna surprise you.
Too much pressure on the resource.
Yep. Pay people to advertise it to out of staters, then shorten the season.
Where’s that eye roll emoji when I need it?

I'm most impressed with Remi. Seems to always get it done, and gets it on film, solo none the less.

That said there is a lot of names I've never heard of on this thread, I'll have to check them out.

Yeah, because if you had the same following and success and a state agency wanted to pay you for exposure, you certainly wouldn't take it....

THP seems like salt of the earth guys to me. Don't really follow your logic as they are ultimately hunting/producing content for a living.
“producing content”
All of the things I enjoy on a hunt can’t be “produced”

I’d rather not.

Do you just complain, non-stop? We get it, you're a hater of anyone who films their hunt and makes a nickel from it. Exploiters, every one of them in your mind.
All the southern states have shortened their turkey seasons or reduced bag limits because of declining numbers of birds. Nest predators and spring floods have had a million times the impact on the population than anyone who watched THP. They played no role in those management decisions, no matter how badly you want to blame them.

How rich THP guys are or how frugal and down to earth they are has nothing to do with should they be getting paid with sportsman’s dollars.

And we keep hearing this argument of how much good YouTube hunting shows are doing. Conservation, awareness, etc. And what are we always arguing about (me included) on hunting forums, decreased opportunities, increased costs, lower odds, otc going away.

This guy get it. The irony in the username and defensive stance is telling. Bought into THP hook line and sinker. I don’t blame him, most people don’t stop and reflect, just defend.

The problem isn’t that any of these influencers are good dudes or not. It’s that in the beginning they didn’t predict the damage and loss of opportunity it would have on the general hunting public. And now they are dependent on the business model and to much ego to admit that the trajectory of public land non guided hunting is on a fast and steady decline.

I’ll be absolutely thrilled to admit I was wrong if 10 years from now hunting has gotten better in-spite of 500 new influencers making the same how to video over and over, master classes on how to tie your boots for a backcountry hunt, and services that promote which tags to obtain. What I love about a certain tag service co is the applicant graphs in any random unit in any western state. All straight lined to the sky lol.

While I agree that some loss of opportunity has happened, specifically in the west I don't think it has come off the youtube from guys like The Hunting Public. Newberg, and the more western specific guys for sure.

The fact of the matter is just 5 or 6 years ago everyone was worried that hunting numbers were declining and that what was going to happen in the next decade or two when our young no longer take to the woods. Now its oh my god too many people in the woods we need less. Where is the happy medium?

I agree that public land pressure is up throughout the country, and that could be partly contributed to the success of youtube channels and partly to blame in the fact that more 20 somethings are out in the woods.

I think it would be cool to set around a campfire and have a beer with Synder, Remi, Newberg, Barney and of course Denning! Many other guys probably fit the bill but just named a few.

Not my thread, but I’d be interested to know who hasn’t sold themselves and us out to hunter recruitment and commercialization.
I've met Randy Newberg and he's a real guy, he said he turns down sponsors all the time and only hunts with what he wants to use, doesn't get paid for the products he uses. He's definitely genuine
