Leaving a bear overnight

I left a bear over night last year due to a poor shot..went in after it an hour after the shot in the pitch dark an could hear it moving around still so backed out and found it first thing! I didn't notice anything while skinning and quartering it but the next day when I went to debone it it had an awful smell.

Classic bone sour . Bears have to come off the bone if they are not going straight in to a locker

I've left 1 overnight that we couldn't find. In a cliffy/ super thick area. Early Sept but temps near freezing at night. No issues w/ meat and hide but we were up there early AM to get it.

What does hair slipping mean? From a guy who's never hunted bear before?

Bear hides insulate very well, and their fat goes bad fast, which makes hides go quickly. I would never leave a bear overnight.

But hell, I wouldn't leave a deer or elk overnight either. But all the cool influencers on YouTube are leaving them, so what do I know...
Elk quarters with hide off depending on freezing first night usually not a problem.

High risk of hair slipping. How do you know when you will find it the next day. Always take 3 good flashlights.
I am contradicting myself. My nephew is driving home from northern Alberta, he told me all of the guides spent each morning skinning the bears killed the prior evening. They said it was for better pictures and better job skinning.
