Late season freezer filling opportunities?

Due to a variety of issues I didn't hit my yearly freezer target to carry the family till next fall with the set of tags/hunts this fall and I'm considering what late season options are out there to consider chasing after for harvest potential. Work travel will prevent me from pursuing the rest of 3rd rifle or 4th rifle in CO so looking out a bit further. I have a couple things in mind: WY whitetail doe tags: not sure if they're shot off public by this point. Nebraska muzzy deer: helps also scout as a consideration for my son who turns 10 next year but focus is meat in freezer and going in blind to smaller public access areas I've never even been in the vicinity of on a short schedule might might leave me in the same position as now. Stacking up some small game is an option too but to be honest stuff like rabbits I seem to only bump sporadically, not sure how to truly effectively find/hunt them (no dog access). I'm only a muzzy/rifle guy currently. Anyways figured I'd toss out the question to see if anyone has suggestions I may not have considered yet. Feel free to PM if its not something desired to post widely.

Talking wild pigs? Haven't had it yet but its on my list of want to. You hear mixed things about it but you hear that about so many dang animals that pass through my freezer, I like to try first hand with proper meat care before I rule anything out.

I have a buddy that brought a couple young hogs back from Texas last year and he was VERY happy with the dining experience. I hope to make a trip down late winter, this year, to find out for myself.

As for the quality of the meat, it seems to depend on the care and handling which is not unlike most all other game as well...

That’s what I tend to expect in most cases of these tales. Hogs are on my want to try list.

Its pig season everyday of the year here..and 98% of the time they are delicious no matter the size. The exception I have found is they have been eating off a large carcass...think cow....but u will know by the smell as soon as u walk up on them.

Also dont limit yourself to feathered or furry critters...great fishing for reds, sea trout, and black drum here now too. Oysters season starts in a few weeks too.

A lot of seasons down south are just getting started good. I'm in Mississippi. Our firearms season for deer starts in 2 weeks. We have some sort of deer season going from 10/1 through 2/15. Most areas give opportunities for pigs as well. We have a 3 buck, 5 doe limit on deer and no limit on pigs. It's like that throughout most of the southeast as well.

My question on hogs is where are opportunities with some probability? Folks I talked to say on small places hogs come/go so not necessarily reliable for run/gun trips unless its the right place. BUT this is obviously all second hand so all ears for getting my knowledge sorted out. Is there public to go after hogs on that has a strong probability they are around during a short trip or ranchers that truly allow folks on, etc? Us non-local folks hear about hogs all the time but don't really know how to tackle the situation.

I haven't ruled out the reel at all, a buddy of mine runs a boat down in the keys, I am planning to cash in some air miles sometime this winter to see about adding to the freezer on that front as well.

They are a target of opportunity...they do come and go...We have the most luck during the night season guarding a corn pile till daylight. The Francis Marion NF is full of them and you can usually find them if you keep the wind in your face..thermocell required year round.

Shrimp season is still in as well.
